My book is The Detention Club that was written by David Yoo. The main character, Peter Lee attends middle school with his big sister Sunny, and his best friend Drew. At Fenwick Middle School, the teachers consider Sunny the star student of the school. Along with having his sister being in his school, he also is bullied by the Sweet brothers. Later on he ends up in detention for a month after stealing chemicals from the science lab for a project.
Halfway through the story, we find there is a school thief that causes chaos in the school. Stealing Drew's jacker, Hugh's (Sweet Brother) hat, and many more that had been lost. We find Sunny being suspicious a 3 quarters to the end of the book. A long way after, we find Sunny was the school thief
One of the fasting growing juvenile treatment and interventions programs are known as teen courts. Teen courts serve as an alternative juvenile justice, to young offenders. Non-violent, and mostly first time offenders are sentenced by their peers’ in teen courts. Teen courts also serve as juvenile justice diversion programs. Teen courts vary from state to state, and sometimes within the same state. With this program, all parties of the judicial setting are juveniles with the exception of the judge. Each teen court, is designed specifically to meet the needs of the community it serves. Teen courts were created to re-educate offenders throughout the judicial process, create a program with sanctions that will allow the youth not to have a juvenile record, and to also instil a sense of responsibility.

Ideas- The main idea in this book changes all throughout it. There is one idea that goes throughout the whole story which has a protagonist and an antagonist. Charlie is the protagonist. The antagonist… high school. This develops miraculously throughout the book. Starting off with his first day, to the homecoming game where he meets Sam and Patrick, to his last days of being a freshman. “And I’m Patrick. And this is Sam” pg-19. The book Punished: Policing the lives of Black and Latino boys by Victor Rios is about the Latinos and African Americans in poor parts of the city joining gangs, do violence, and ending up in prison. It is also add how the police are handling the situation differently in these areas. The researcher is Victor Rios and the goal is to change how the police should handle in these poor communities and to have trust to prevent a crime that is unrelated with African Americans and Latinos. Since the early 1800s, the United States has relied on a method of punishment barely known to any other country, solitary confinement (Cole). Despite this method once being thought of as the breakthrough in the prison system, history has proved differently. Solitary confinement was once used in a short period of time to fix a prisoners behavior, but is now used as a long term method that shows to prove absolutely nothing. Spending 22-24 hours a day in a small room containing practically nothing has proved to fix nothing in a person except further insanity. One cannot rid himself of insanity in a room that causes them to go insane. Solitary confinement is a flawed and unnecessary method of punishment that should be prohibited in the prison system.
Schools are where we spend half of our lives at, our kids are spending time and energy in these places to become better people in the future. There is absolutely no reason why budget cuts should ever happen in a school. If the country is taking taxes from all of the citizens than they should be conscious to spend that money on things that matter like our children. Making budget cuts takes away programs for kids to excel in and makes a child harder to express himself. Arts are usually the first programs to be cut.

This isn’t always true, there some horrible consequences because of it like suicide. “Juvenile jails are a less punishable place than adult prisons and are more forgiving” (Bechtold). When you start to treat a kid like how you treat an adult, when they come out they 're not normal because how people have treated them throughout most of their lives. research has shown that “kids develop better criminal skills when they 're incarcerated in adult facilities”(Bechtold). This is a big negative effect because this is why the US department of corrections say “in prison the reconviction of kids is from 14-17 years is 82.1 percent”(Bechtold). This shocked me because this age group is the highest reconviction rate among all age groups. They think they’re not going to get caught
My recommendation for this book would be that this book is just a fun read, nothing to serious. But yet it's a book were its easy to relate to were a lot of the situations that happen in the book happen in young teenage life as well. Like for example the desperation to fit in. kids will do most likely anything to be part of "the cool group" hopefully not take some sort of pill that will talk to you in your head. But other things like being pressured into talking drugs. Sneaking out of the house to go to some party and not coming back until the next day at dawn without getting caught. These days we do so much and our parents know so little.

He called the cops but his mom didn't press any charges even though she went the hospital. Although she did break up with Bear Rafe and Georgina were both glad of the decision that her mom makes but the didn't say it. So then he has to have meeting with his mom and the principal he said that he was expelled from his school for the rest of the school year, although his English teacher was impressed by his art skills that she suggested an art school. His mom and Rafe took the suggestion and for the first time he’s excited for school.
For my book I chose to read The Body by Stephen King. This novel is about four young boys taking a journey to find a body somewhere in the woods that is at the county line. This story is about more than just four boys going on an adventure its about them becoming closer to each other and learning real life lessons along the way. The four boys are all going into their first year of middle school so this is a time in their life when they learn things that will help them in life.
