The Designing Station is a non-profit organization which provides furniture to homeless veterans, domestic violence victims, and hurricane survivors of Cumberland and Hoke County. In addition to assistance for homeless and domestic violence victims they also provide furniture, school supplies, and equipment to school’s low on funding. They may be reached at 201 McDuffie St. in Fayetteville NC, 28301 Monday through Thursday from 10a.m. to 3p.m. and on Saturday from 10a.m. to 12p.m., by phone at (910) 321-2814 or by email at director@desigingstation.org. How it all began When you ask director Cheri Smith how Designing Station started, she states that it all began with a 19-year-old and her daughter who needed a place to stay after Hurricane Katrina. Mrs. Smith decided to help them out (Hauka, 2016). We provide new and gently-used basic home furnishings and other household goods, class on how to maintain a clean home and easy decorating tips.” The Designing Station had an empty warehouse and no electricity but they held on with all they had praying for a warm autumn. They were also lucky enough to get help from volunteers to get the electricity and water turned on (Hauka, 2016). They also helped provide funds to renovate the old rundown building and fix the broken AC unit before the winter months
