When you hear the word bravery, what crosses your mind? Usually, for most people, it’s either a hero or superhero. Every single language has a word for bravery but bravery has only one true meaning. Bravery is the quality or condition of being brave, fearless and having courage. Bravery is a spirit that shows a backbone and courage that proves true grit. Bravery is not just what people do but how they accomplish it. Bravery can be shown in different manners such as if one wants to jump in front of a bus or skydives out of an airplane to show that they are truly brave. Sara Bareilles is not incorporated with any group, movement or ideology. Her song, on the other hand, is associated with a group of people who are brave or strive to be brave and the ideology behind it is that it’s great to be brave and courageous. The song brave is about speaking your mind. Way too often we the people hold things in that the world would appreciate because we are self-conscious or afraid of what people will think about us. This is a song written for all generations of people because at one time or another in our lives, everyone has been there and needed to be brave or needed someone in their life that’s brave. Being able to feel relaxed saying what you want to say instead of beating around the bush is also something that unfortunately most people will never experience. The song was inspired by Sara’s friend who struggled with coming out with being that he or she was gay and not straight. The song is also about anything else someone could be spooked and who does not have the guts to tell another person or the world. The tempo and awe-inspiring lyrics command us all to pursue to be heard. Everyone is unique and has something to lend to others, it does take bravery to "let the words fall out" but when we do, only then are we truly free.
