The word patriotism is a strong word for some Americans as it explains our pride and commitment to America and our accomplishments as a nation, but the American people have seemed to forget what being a patriot or the meaning of patriotism is. Patriotism is pride in the United States of America and overcoming everything that has come at us, getting rid of Britain's tyrannical taxes and tariffs is an example. People who fought against British rules were considered patriots and helping us get our independence. Why is patriotism so important you may ask? In the article "Dissing America, American Thinker” Lloyd Marcus states that, patriotism had been slowly decreasing for many years because of cuts, fake news, hollywood and many politicians, and an example would be Jack Murtha who accused our military of rape and murder. Dick Durbin had accused our Guantánamo Bay detention center in Cuba as equal as Nazi death camps. Obama had even accused America for arrogance, and then apologized to other countries for what America had done. These people and people before them have started to cut into patriotism, making America seem pathetic. Danny Glover, an actor, blamed the earthquake in Haiti on America and people believed it. Some of these people do not have any valid information for these concepts to be true. Fake news is another thing that creates the decline of our patriotism, these “news” degrade our American people. You may argue that America has done terrible and bad things so therefore we should not be patriotic, but America has done more good than bad, we have achieved the strongest military, many imports and exports to other countries, our economy is thriving, we had helped win world war 2 and helped rebuild nations that were crippled by the war, and later had overcome the racism and now everyone is considered equal. "Blind Patriotism Is Rampant,” by Ron Sparks, explains what blind patriotism is and how it divides us Americans, we choose our own definition of patriotism, and this is what hurts us, we are all wrong, because everyone has their own answer. This divide of right and wrong is what hurts patriots and people, being patriot nowadays have been split into the political parties, "Patriotism Is Alive and Well—If We Let It,” even addresses “Political Views Should Not Be a Factor in Patriotism“ and this is true, the divide had been created because of political views, we have people in America who are anarchists that want to destroy America because they are not in favor of patriotism and American ideals, while we have the far left who want to stray away from patriotism as its arrogant, even the far right use patriotism to blackmail people into groups. Patriotism should not make people hate each other it should be used to get people together to show why we Americans are the best at what we do, hating each other because we do not like each others views does not solve anything, the problems it causes is a bigger divide in us
