The Declaration of Independence is what got this beautiful country started as a team. The writers of the Declaration of Independence didn’t always agree on everyone’s ideas but they came together and made up a document that set rules and facts on how the country is going to be ran. Our founding fathers put their lives on the line to make this document to make this place great. Each father has a unique story behind him on how he got to where he was the day they signed the Declaration of Independence. John Adams was a lawyer when Benjamin rush was a doctor Elbridge Gerry was a merchant, and John Hancock was a merchant. Most of the people that signed were wealthy professionals, but each men listened to Thomas Jefferson’s words literally: "We mutually pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." The “committee five” consisted of john Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston. Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. John Adams thought that they would be celebrating July 2nd. The fourth of July is for us to celebrate the Declaration of Independence and our freedom. “John and Samuel Adams, along with others such as Virginia 's George Wythe, wanted Congress to declare independence right away and start negotiating foreign alliances and forming a more lasting confederation.” Congress decided to give the other colonies time so that delayed its decision for three weeks. The committee five wanted the document to be issued very quickly once Lee’s motion passed. Only nine colonies voted in favor for lee’s resolution, those colonies were New England states, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. SC and Pennsylvania was against the proposition, Delaware’s delegates split, and New York’s abstained. “Once independence had been adopted, Congress again formed itself into a Committee of the Whole.” On July 4th congress revised and approved the Declaration and got it printed and sent out to many states and to commanding officers of the Continental Army.
