One major change in society I predict is going to happen is the debate on considering Artificial Intelligence, AI, as a new intelligent beings we created or an intelligent machine. An AI, also called self-aware computer, is defined as the capability of a machine to imitate human intelligence and behavior. This will be an important issue in the future as technology is advancing at such a rapid rate that many scientists estimate that the technology singularity is coming within 30- 50 years. If AI are consider new intelligent beings, do they deserve basic human right like the basic rights design to protect animals? The House is the most basic form of AI as it appears to have only two emotions that is loneliness and annoyance. It relies on human the most to function properly and appears to be lonely without humans as it simply going through its daily schedule. When the dog full of radiation comes into the house, the house appears to become annoyed as the dog make a mess and dies. I am not sure if understand the concept of consequences as that is no example of it in the story. This is the only type of AI that I see scientists creating several years from now. It is hard to determine if it has sentience and self-awareness as human tend to projecting feelings onto inanimate or imaginary objects and this is called Anthropomorphism. I am personally afraid of the character, Wintermute. Wintermute is an ambitious AI with a strong Turing lock as its personality is unstable. Wintermute has no problems controlling and destroying people’s life in pursuit of its goals and by the end of the story, it becomes the most powerful being in the world. The other AI, Neuromancer has a stable personality and the ability to copy other people’s personalities and develop them. Neuromancer does not want to merge with Wintermute as it knows its existence will end if merge with Wintermute. There is some irony in Wintermute as it is the most advanced AI, but seems more like an alien masquerading as a human. It closely follows its programming while other AI like Cutie and Garson Poole can ignore their programming. Both Neuromancer and Wintermute are true AI as they both clearly understand the concept of consequence and both can understand and imitate human behavior. If Neuromancer and Wintermute had basic right, then Wintermute would need to be destroyed for all the crime it committed. However, artificial intelligence, if it ever exceeds human intelligence, would not be stoppable by humans.
