It’s Saturday morning. You just opened your eyes and the first thing you see is your alarm clock glaring at you. It’s 10:50. A string of profanities, three stubbed toes, and a jacket stuck in the door later, you are now in your car. The clock says 10:55.
It’s almost as if the universe is working against you as you get stopped by every light on the quarter mile trip from your house. Your almost there. Those golden arches are glowing brightly and a smile lights your face.
You pull into the drive-thru, roll down your window, and say, “Can I get a sausage McMuffin meal please?” A voice comes out through the speaker. “I’m sorry, we stopped serving breakfast.” It’s 11:05.
Everyone has experienced the horror. Everyone knows the pain of having to go without the Oh-So-Yummy-In-My-Tumminess that is McDonald’s breakfast.
For years, McDonald’s breakfast hours have been law. They are set in stone. There are no exceptions. Ever. 10:30 a.m. on the weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends. But who says that is breakfast time? What if I want to eat breakfast at 11:15 or 11:40. Or dare I say 11:55?
Merriam-Webster defines breakfast as “the first meal of the day especially when taken in the morning.” Morning is generally accepted as anytime between dawn and noon. Noon. As in 12 p.m. Not 11 a.m. And certainly not 10:30 a.m. Who is McDonald’s to tell me when to eat breakfast? Who are they to tell me what time is lunch? Breakfast and lunch is whatever time you want it to be.
They have tried to compensate for their shortcomings by having a late night menu. From midnight until 4:30 a.m. McDonald’s offers breakfast and lunch menu items. But why? Certainly the people who want a McGriddles at 2:00 a.m. are vastly outnumbered by the people who want one at 11:...

... of the great Sweet Brown, “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”
Why does McDonald’s insist on staying in the dark ages of the breakfast world? Why do they continue starving us of the delicious golden hotcakes and sausage at any time of day? I don’t know.
Recently there has been rumors of McDonald’s changing its ways. "Well, we're just beginning," he said. "We're just taking a look at it,” said John Stratton, head of domestic operations at McDonald’s. Just like they were a few years ago. And just like they will be ten years from now. Until then, I think I’ll have a waffle taco. But only before 11 a.m. of course.

In 1940, McDonalds was not the multi-million dollar industry that people recognize today. In fact, it started out as a small drive-in style BBQ restaurant, owned by Dick and Mac McDonald, in San Bernadino, California. However in 1948, the entire workings of the restaurant were altered, making it the dawn of the McDonald’s empire. This new drive-in, like other drive-in restaurants of its time, struggled to make a large amount of profit, due to selling low-priced food using traditional methods, which were often labor intensive and expensive. But the McDonald brothers fixed this problem by reducing their menu 25 items to nine items: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, soft drinks, milk, coffee, potato chips, and a slice of pie. Their staple item, the 30 cent hamburger, accounted for 80 percent of their total sales. Later, the brothers altered the production to that of the Fordist assembly line in order to make the whole operation fast and efficient, halving the price of their items, including their prized hamburger. The process of McDonaldization, where the ideology of McDonald's has come to dominate the world, has caused many restaurants to emulate McDonald's style of running a franchised restaurant chain in terms of efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control. First, before I discuss the impact of Mcdonaldization on restaurants, I will define what McDonaldization is. McDonaldization is the process by which the principles of fast-food restaurants are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society, as well as, of the rest of the world. George Ritzer created this concept of McDonaldization as a continuation of Max Weber's theories on bureaucracies (Ritzer...
The first McDonald’s opened in 1948. The franchising operations soon became McDonald’s Corporation in 1955.
If you have ever had a meal in a restaurant (fast-food/formal dining), used an ATM in a bank, spent your vacation at an amusement park or simply browsed through a mall, you have been exposed to McDonaldization. McDonaldization is “the process by which the principles of the fast food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of America society as well as the rest of the world” (Ritzer, 1996, 1). Nearly ever aspect of today’s society has been affected by McDonaldization including the restaurant business, education, work, healthcare, travel, leisure, dieting, politics and the family (Ritzer, 1996, 1). I observed three East Side Mario’s Restaurant’s establishments while the dinner menu was being served on Saturday evenings between 6pm and 8pm to evaluate the ways in which McDonaldization has affected their company. On January 29th I visited East Side Mario’s in London, Ontario, on February 19th I visited East Side Mario’s in Plano, Texas (I used to hold a job as a server at this location) and on February 26th I visited East Side Mario’s in Orange, California. With the diversity of locations I was able to observe, I compared and contrasted many angles of the East Side Mario’s concept. East Side Mario’s Restaurants Inc. is one of the millions of business’ that has implemented the four principles of McDonaldization, which are: efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control.
A world without the Big Mac, Happy Meals, Chicken McNuggets, and the phrase “I’m lovin’ it,” is almost inconceivable. People around the globe have become accustomed to the high gleaming golden arches that make up the famous emblem for McDonald’s. McDonald’s has grasped the concept that culture flows from power. In this case, the American culture flows through the veins of this fast-food giant and the more that is supplied, the greater the demand. It is no secret that McDonald’s has become one of the world’s largest fast-food retailers. It has become a well known icon that has played a huge part in globalization, with chains located in many different countries… transforming the meaning of fast-food all around the world.
After reading “McDonaldization of Society” I began to question the way our world works. George Ritzer and Max Weber are very intellectual and think way outside the box, and by coming up with these theories they have made it easier to identify the problems with our society. Should food be as easy to access via drive-throughs? This book remained unbiased throughout the whole read and provided facts about every-day living. Ritzer provided a commentary on the aspects of society that humans often do not think about questioning, such as the way food can be put out within two minutes in order to maintain customer satisfaction. This is not an opinion, but rather, it is fact. Businesses that follow the idea of McDonaldization are only destroying the aspects of life that make life liveable. I would recommend this book to anybody that is trying to expand their knowledge about living and how to get the most out of their lives. I would encourage everyone to put an end to the McDonaldization of civil society by going to the grocery store and spending an extra penny in order to prepare hardier, healthier meals that are made of ingredients other than highly processed foods. Afterall, living is more enjoyable when one is energetic and fit rather than stuffed and feeling lazy because they ordered a factory-packaged, frozen, then quickly grilled Big Mac off a
Are you thinking about going to McDonald’s any time soon, well I would rethink that because there are so many bad things about McDonald's. People need to stop eating at McDonalds because it’s not healthy and it’s not sanitary or eco-friendly.
Have you ever wondered how the business empire of McDonalds was started? With over ninety nine billion served, it was started in 1940 in San Bernardino, California. It was started off as just a Bar-B-Q that served just twenty items. Its first mascot was named “Speedee” They eventually realized that by setting up their kitchen like an assembly line that they could be much more productive and get their food done faster, with every employee doing a specified job; the restaurants production rate became much higher. A milkshake machine vendor came into their small restaurant one day, his name was Ray Kroc. He saw how much potential the restaurant has, so he bought it out and opened one of the first franchises. Within the first year of Ray Kroc buying it, there were one hundred and two locations all around the world. McDonalds currently is one of the largest fast food restaurants in the world and currently has served over sixty four million customers through one of their thirty two thousand sites. It has almost become a way of life for America. Though, McDonalds started off as a small business between two brothers, it grew into one of the largest restaurant franchises in the world and greatly affects our society and how we eat our food.
This article talks about the pros of eating breakfast and how it is the most important meal of the day. It also talks about the guidelines of what consists of a healthy breakfast. Don’t eat fats. Avoid sugars. Eat protein at every meal. The time when you eat also plays a big factor. When you consume calories affects your weight gain and overall health. People who eat three meals a day with a snack tend to gain weight over time, on the other hand, those who ate one or two meals a day tended to lose weight. Consuming more calories in the morning and fewer as the day goes on is an effective way to maintain a healthy weight. I plan on using this
These are opportunities because they are all options McDonalds can take advantage of in order to expand their company. By doing these, McDonalds will bring in more customers as these changes will attract consumers that are looking for a fast food restaurant that possess these
With strength ultimately comes weakness and McDonald's has its fair share, especially in the last few years. Many weaknesses are due to the external environment which includes market saturation, increased price competition, and food and labor costs. These weaknesses affect many firms in the fast food industry so McDonald's is trying to effectively combat these forces using a differentiation strategy. Developing new products such
The menu at McDonald's typically consists of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, drinks, shakes, and a recent influx of healthier alternatives. McDonald's also is widely known for their breakfast menu, which consists of sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, hash browns, and breakfast drinks. Since McDonald's appeals to such a wide audience, it must constantly re-evaluate its menu depending on feedback and market research. McDonald's expends considerable resources to update its menu and introduce new products in order to be more in tune with its target audience (The Times 100).
In today’s market, McDonalds faces numerous challenges such as fierce competition, a more health conscious customer, and the continual need for improved customer satisfaction and menu. McDonalds needs to go through some changes in order to remain ahead in the fast-food industry.
Every meal a man, woman, or child consumes plays a role in their daily physical and mental well-being. There are deciding factors in determining which meal has the greatest importance. A single meal can have an astounding affect on a person’s day. The first meal of the day is called breakfast, because it literally breaks the fast that has lasted ten to twelve hours since the last meal of the previous day. Breakfast is proven to be the most important meal of the day. This meal can decide the entire outcome of a person’s day.
