On July 20, 2012, A man named James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 more during a midnight viewing of the movie ‘’The Dark Knight Rises’’ at the Century Aurora 16 Multiplex Theater in Aurora ,Colorado.On July 7, 2012, He purchased a ticket for a midnight showing of ‘’The Dark Knight Rises’’ on July 19 ,2012. on July 19, 2012 he attends the movie and goes out the rear door.Then, 18 minutes into the movie shortly after midnight,he opens fire on the audience.He was dressed in protective gear - A ballistic helmet, protective gear for his legs, throat, and groin, black gloves ,and a gas mask.He threw two tear gas canisters into the theater.After the canisters explode, he shoots the ceiling and then the audience.Police say he used a AR-15 …show more content…

In February 2014,the judge orders Holmes to undergo another sanity examination,which delay Holmes’s trial,which was originally in October 2014.In December 2014,Holmes’s parents say in a written statment ‘’ the death penalty is moraly wrong,especialy when the comdemed is mentally ill.’’Holmes’s parents said.In July 2015, Holmes is found guilty on all 165 counts on him, making him eligible for the death penalty.In August 2015, Holmes is sentencd to life in prison without parole when the jury is unable to reach a unanimous sentencing verdict.Then,on August 26, 2015,Holmes is sentenced to 12 life sentences for each person he killed, plus 3,318 years in prison for the attempted murder of everyone in his apartment buildinghe is not eligible for
