Liam ran out the door, searching everywhere for his younger brother. He searched from sunrise to sunset in vain. He contacted the royal guard to search for his brother, without success. Liam finally retuned home, completely spent. His body was terribly sore from the constant running, climbing, ducking, and jumping. He could barely hold himself up. He slumped into the chair that was slightly pulled out from the table and put his head in his hands. “No luck?” his mother asked. Liam just shook his head. “Are you sure you checked everywhere in the city?” “Every nook and cranny,” Liam answered. In the same moment, Natasha came barging through the door saying, “I came over as soon as I heard. Oh you seem to be looking better.” she said motioning toward Liam. “Thank you but I’m not really sure I’m concerned about how I’m doing at this point. Do you have any idea where he might be?” “That’s what I came over here to tell you. I’m thinking he’s at the barn.” “What barn?” Liam’s mother interrupted. “There’s no barn in—.” “Mom, please. I know what she’s talking about. Just bear with us.” He turned back to Natasha and said, “Are you for certain?” “No, but it’s the only reasonable place I could think of that he would go.” “But we haven't been there in years.” “We haven’t. That’s not to say he hasn’t.” “Well what do we have to lose?” “My point exactly. I’m ready for it.” Thats when Liam noticed that she wasn't wearing her typical richer clothing, but she was wearing normal peasant clothes, built for moving and going. He chose not to say anything about it now, but on the ten mile trip there he thought he might mention it. “Then y’all kids better go. It’s getting dark,” Miss Krane said. “Alright, Mom. It’ll be after dark before we are back. You do... ... middle of paper ... ...Liam with his pure black eyes. Before Liam could react, a force hit him directly in the chest, sending him sprawling backward, his brother still over his shoulder. When he hit the ground, his head bounced against the hard surface, causing him to lose focus on reality. The dark man walked to him and leaned over saying, “That was very intolerable behavior, young Lam, and you must be punished.” He looked to his right and said, “Oh! I see you brought your girlfriend with you.” He aroused the other soldiers and told them to bind Liam and Natasha’s hands and feet. He also told them to leave Alexander, for he was of no use to them. The first guard that Liam had buffeted leaned over him and said, “You will pay for that, young slime.” He wrapped his arms around Liam’s waist. The stench from his contaminated flesh was too much to endure, and Liam drifted into the subconscious.
In this paper I intend to show how the loss of a brother can have the same effects on two different people like Holden Caulfield and Conrad Jarrett. Both of their lives are turned upside down after the difficult loss of a family member.
“It was the worst of times it was the best of times.”(book). In the book A Tale Of Two Cities innocents were killed, abused and imprisoned. This book had a hero and a bad guy. The hero was Sydney Carton and the bad people were probably the revolutionaries, Madame Defarge and Monsieur Defarge. In the movie The Dark Knight Rises innocents, were also killed but in several different ways. In this movie, the bad guy was Bane and his accomplices, and the hero was Batman.
In “The Dark Knight: An Allegory of America in the Age of Bush”, Ron Briley comparing the terrorist acts of 9/11 to one of America’s top movies, The Dark Knight Rises from the Batman series. Briley gives many different ideas of similarities and a lot of good points, but is not as clear as you would hope someone would be when trying to persuade and convince you to believe such an allegory. Briley is comparing many of the main cast in The Dark Knight to many real people who are not as great as these characters are seemed to be.
“You say you had to pass the Ewell place to get to and from work. Is there any other way to go?”
Batman (Christian Bale) is hoping to hand on his crime fighting duties to D.A Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) yet when Batman’s cards are on the table the twisted mastermind who goes by the name of the joker (Heath Ledger), forces the masked vigilante to go against everything he ever stood for.
Watching Bruce Almighty, starring Jim Carrey, we were shown several scenes. In these scenes examples of hopelessness, individualism, enlightened self- interest, compassion, hope, love, free will, relationships, sin, and images of God were seen throughout them.
When comics were first coming out, they were not all that popular but in todays’ world, they have become very popular and well known. Several of these comics have been turned into films, which is one of the many reasons why the popularity has been rising over the years. One of the most well known comics is Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. This comic was composed and released in 1986 by Frank Miller. With the usage of Frank Miller’s powerful, intense lines and the artwork done by Klaus Janson’s and Lynn Varley’s it has elevated this comic up to the very top of mainstream comics. In Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, the skillful illustrations on the pages successfully create the thought that there are underlying meanings, which makes the atmosphere a very intense one throughout the comic. The work of art that is presented on the pages in this comic are embedded in such a way that the pages become the continuum for the meaning. One of the main themes that are imbedded on the pages through the artwork in this book is the ideological struggle between Bruce Wayne and Batman.
Bruce Almighty is a fiction story about a man who, after enduring a bad day, blasphemes God. He blames him for all the wrong doing in his life, and orders God to answer him. God does answer Bruce, appearing to Bruce as a janitor. After convincing Bruce he is God, he then bestows all of his Godly powers upon Bruce and tells him, “If you can do it better, than be my guest.”
After years of non communication between brothers, a single event happens that puts them back in touch. This event is the passing away of the narrator’s daughter Gracie. Sonny writes a letter to the narrator from prison explaining how he got to where he is and how difficult his drug addicted life has been. After this letter the brothers keep in constant contact. "The darkness outside is what the old folks have been talking about. It's what they've come from. It's what they endure. The child knows that they won't talk any more because if he knows too much about what's happened to them, he'll know too much too soon, about what's going to happen to him" (pg 137) Just before she dies, his mother tells the narrator about his secret uncle, the brother his father had watched die in a hit-and-run. This was his mother’s way of telling him to look out for Sonny; as not doing so would haunt him as it did his father before him.
‘yes, I did, he’ll be able to give Stella the protection that we can’t’ my father catches his breath in his throat before hugging my mom.
“I’m sorry mam but as I said before we have it under control trust me.”
“What!? Was it all a fantasy? There’s no way he could’ve disappeared,” Corvo thought, turning away and looking back to make sure he wasn’t seeing things.
The mans heart was racing as he ran, he had his flashlight in his hand, but his other hand was empty, wait… wasn’t his knife in his other… but alas, it wasn’t there. He must have dropped it when he started to run! That was the only weapon that he could possibly fight back with.
There is a guilty pleasure one gets from watching characters we identify with struggle on screen, and we begin to think to ourselves that maybe our lives aren’t so bad after all. Such is the case in Bruce Almighty, a new release from Universal Pictures directed by Tom Shadyac. The movie is by no means sensational or groundbreaking, but it has an irresistible charm that draws in viewers in desperate need of a break from reality. The unfortunate protagonist (Jim Carrey) becomes convinced that God has abandoned him after he loses a coveted news anchor position to a slimy coworker. God (Morgan Freeman) grants Bruce his heavenly powers and challenges him to do a better job, pointing out that “…Gandhi only lasted a week!”
Any fan of Batman knows that “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” are two of the best Batman films made in the seventy-eight years that Batman has been around. The plots really make you look deep in yourself and show the true and more real sides of the characters of the Batman world. Each movie shows the evolution of Batman and shows only a few of the many crazy and intense adventures of this mysterious hero. These two movies are the first two in the dark knight trilogy, created by the amazing Christopher Nolan. These movies were heavily praised for their astounding realism to the real world, and its pros and cons. But they were also extremely liked for their possibility for
