Royalty isn’t the easiest thing in the world. There are many obstacles and responsibilities along the way. In the book The Crown by Kiera Cass, the main protagonist Eadlyn Schreave deals with many obstacles in her daily life. She’s a princess, but in order for her to be a queen in the future, she’ll need a king by her side. Eadlyn holds her own selection, however, her parents practically forced her to. A selection is where a random group of boys come to the palace and try to win the princess’ heart. Eadlyn struggles to find love at first and wants nothing to do with it. Eadlyn doesn’t want anything to do with love. She believes she can be happy on her own and she wants to end the selection, but she can’t because of her parents. Eadlyn fears that if she’ll fall in love, she’ll become even weaker in her strength and power. Towards the middle of the book, Eadlyn starts falling in love with this translator named Erik for one of the candidates. However, it is treasonous and forbidden towards the country for a princess or a prince to fall in love with someone who’s not in the ballot for the selection. Eadlyn had a conversation with him and “dug [her] fingers into his shirt, his vest, so angry that [she] couldn’t hold on to it forever. Eadlyn had a hard time letting herself fall in love, but she’s developed this into a greater conflict because now she loves someone who’s not an official candidate. She has to choose a spouse at the end of the selection, but she can’t do that when she loves someone else. She’s struggling through this whole book to find true love. Towards the end, Eadlyn finally fights her
