The Cross Symbol of Mercy

Jesus Christ 's death on the cross replaced the sacrifices of the old covenant. It did not

cancel them or destroy their significance, but it replaced them by fulfilling them. What

the ceremonies of the old covenant sought, the forgiveness of sins and restoration of

relationship with God, was achieved by Christ 's death and resurrection. The one

time sacrifice of Jesus Christ truly accomplished all that the many sacrifices of the old

covenant sought, and could only partially reached. Jesus’s sacrifice "fulfilled" all the old

covenant sacrificial practices.

of the Garden of Eden. The obedience of a man was needed to lead us back. Jesus Christ

was that man.” The mercy of God all hanged on the obedience and humility of our Lord

Mercy and justice met at the Cross of Jesus Christ. The bible said that, “Mercy and

truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed” Psalm 85:10 (NKJV) Justice and Mercy stood apart, in opposition to each other, separated by a wide gulf. The

Lord our Redeemer clothed His divinity with humanity, and worked out in behalf of man

a character that was without spot or blemish. He planted His cross midway between

heaven and earth, and made it the object of attraction which reached both ways, drawing

both Justice and Mercy across the gulf. There we saw One equal with God bearing the

penalty for all injustice and sin. With perfect satisfaction Justice bowed in reverence at

the cross, saying, It is enough.

By the offering made on our behalf we are placed on vantage ground. The
