The Creature

Victor’s creation. An unloved being that changes to an angry cur. A sad life.

It awoke in a darkened room. Its creator, asleep on his bed. It knew not what the world around it even was. Everything astounded him. It’s first and perhaps only guide was supposed to be its creator, but sadly, that does not come to pass. As soon as Victor awakens, he tears himself out of the room in horror at what he has done, leaving the Creature to fend for itself in a strange land. The Creature, knowing not what it should do, grabbed some random paper from Victor’s desk and fled the room. He ran into the forest, where he wandered about, listening to the lovely song of the birds. He even tries to copy their songs in vain.

He does not understand why its original occupants fled. He does not dwell on it. Here, he learns that the moon is ultimately comforting to the lonely, and that fire is, although extremely pleasant, bites and burns if touched. He wanders away from his hut to find himself a village of strange creatures. These creatures, of course, are human. They do not react kindly to him, attacking him with sticks and stones. He flees once more, not knowing why they do such a thing. After several days, he finds himself a lone cottage filled with people. While hiding in their abandoned pig-stye, he is able to learn all about them and their ways. About their past wealth and downfall. Of proper mannerisms and language. He frames their beloved servant, causing her death. At some point, long after the death of the servant, he is able to meet Victor, his creator, and explain to him that he needs love in his life so that he may recede from humanity forever, and demands another creature from him. Victor agrees, but only after the creature threatens the lives of his family. A long time passes where the creature watches Victor make his second. However, in a fit of rage, Victor destroys the second, easily bringing about the destruction of his family. His best friend dies at the Creature’s hand, as does his Wife. His father dies when grief clouds over him and even Victor himself will fall ill on his own journey for revenge, wishing for the Creature’s death even to his last
