The Conspiracy was believed to be a plot between poor white folks and the slaves to revolt and burn the New York colony. Although it was believed that the slaves were co conspirators most of the blame was put on them. This demonstrates how the slaves suffered from the legal system because it didn’t hold all conspirators responsible, instead most of the blame fell into the slaves. Slaves were in the eyes of the legal system less human than whites and as a result they are discriminated against, despite only being co conspirators the slaves were prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The slaves in the colony of New York are not the first or last group of slaves to attempt to mount an insurrection against their white masters, however the conspiracy of 1741 stands out the most because of the boldness and the help the slaves had from poor white people. “Instead, disgruntled slaves desired personal freedoms, and reacted against the master class by joining whites in stealing from the rich and setting their homes on fire.
