Over the years, America has been struggling to implement a health care reform. Krugman’s book The Conscience of a Liberal discusses a “new New Deal” for America. He proposes that America is ready for another program similar to the ones that Franklin D. Roosevelt implemented during the Great Depression. Krugman suggests that health care reform should be the main focus for the winning administration of the 2008 election. Krugman was right to propose that America should be leaning towards health care reform. Along with the book’s main purpose of health care reform, the book also has main themes consistent through the book. Such themes are America becoming a center-left country, racism and political tricks and various other points.
Paul Krugman was born on the 28th of February in 1953 in New York. He rallied against injustices of society, marched against the bombing of Cambodia and supported liberal political candidates. He considered that most of his generation, along with himself, took the America they grew up in for granted. Krugman published his book The Conscience of a Liberal in 2007 and released the first paperback edition in 2009 with a new introduction. The book has numerous consistent themes throughout the book with the primary purpose to show that America needs a health care reform. Krugman’s views presented in this book are bias due to him being a liberal.
One of the main themes in the book is that America is becoming a more Center-Left Country. Krugman sees America as becoming this due to his liberal outlook. A main argument he presents is that Republicans are losing their popularity in the South because of lessening race issues.
