The Competency Of A Public Education Teacher

Teachers should be able to demonstrate their competency in teaching students and mastery of the curriculums that they will be instructing. Missing credentials and lacking the knowledge of a certain discipline will consequently hinder students’ learning. “In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school” (Common Core State Standards, n.d., para. 1). As a public education teacher, Mrs. Skipper has to teach in compliance to the California State Board of Education’s standards, which established numerous objectives for each curricula. So far, Mrs. Skipper has taught two classes and has built a connection with all her students. “I like to dance and show off the latest dance moves to my students even though I cannot dance. It lets them know that I am relatable, and it creates a comfortable and safe environment” (S. Skipper, personal communication, December 2, 2016). Her objectives align with the State Board of Education standards, and utilize different techniques to establish a safe learning environment for her students. Notorious issues in early education consisted of the inequality, which only formerly entitled rich, white males access to an education, that excluded most of the American people an opportunity to receive a formal education. People may be shock when they learned that education was previously inaccessible for the general public. “The United States’ Constitution requires that all kids be given equal educational opportunity no matter what their race, ethnic background, religion, or sex, or whether they are rich or poor, citizen or non-citizen. Even if you are in this country illegally, you have the right to go to public school” (Your Right to Equ... ... middle of paper ... ...cation. Many parents expect that their children will receive a high quality education as proposed by each state’s Department of Education. Through this process, which I interviewed a public school teacher and composed this paper, I concluded that teachers do believe public education’s purpose is to enrich students with a well-rounded education. Public education prepares students for higher education and several post-secondary school choices. After graduation, students will have possessed the basic skills require for employment. Learning is a process, hence former students have to continue educating themselves, and develop their self further as self-sufficient members of society. Building relationship and collaborating together to strengthen the coalition of those involved in public education is one fundamental way of surpassing the current public educational system.
