Abraham Lincoln said, “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.” This rings true, especially when different groups of people are trying to reach a consensus. Every organization has its own set of stakeholders, all with their own opinions, thoughts, and ideas of how things should be. Many organizations do not consider their stakeholders in their decision-making process. However, for those who want to be seen as a good neighbor, it is a constant challenge to incorporate the community’s wishes while still following their own agendas in an effort to maintain a collegial, collaborative environment.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), is a self-supporting agency that is responsible for the operation of Reagan National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport. It was formed in 1987, through an act of Congress, and is governed by a seventeen-member board of directors, with members appointed by the president, the governors of Maryland and Virginia, and the mayor of the District of the Columbia. It does not receive taxpayer money, but generates funds from aircraft landing fees, passenger facility charges, bonds, federal and state airport improvement program funds, and the rents and revenues from the concessions that operate within the two airports.
In 2008, the Commonwealth of Virginia transferred the control, maintenance, and daily operation of the Dulles Toll Road to MWAA. Virgin Atlantic’s operates from several hub airports in London. Its current home base airport is located at Heathrow in London, England. Currently, the company has two other major hubs in Gatwick and Manchester. However, Heathrow presently is at full capacity, and Gatwick is reaching full capacity in the near future. While various options are available, Virgin Atlantic and London’s commissioned officials are working to reach an agreement on the long-term solution to benefit the airline and the economy.
Conspiracy theories accuse others of a cover up by secret planning. They may be based on a hunch or even backed by evidence. To the curious mind, they bring about unanswered questions that have attracted the attention of many people throughout history. Among some of the more popular theories are the assassination of President John F. Kennedy; the death of Princess Diana; alien encounters in Roswell, New Mexico; and the idea that Elvis may still be alive. Perhaps the most intriguing theory, because of our neighboring location, is the underground bunker and seemingly strange characteristics at the Denver airport.

There is no doubt that an elaborate underground base exist below the Denver International Airport. What actually is going on down below in this base however is a mystery. When taking a closer look at this airfield it is evident that something weird is going on. “While the most extreme claim maintains that a massive underground facility exists below the airport where an alien race of reptilian humanoids feeds on missing children while awaiting the date of government-sponsored rapture” (Maher 4). This extreme claim just shows what the human mind can conceive when coincidence and the unknown meet. The research is done, is there a conspiracy or is it just being blown out of proportion.

The story of the Interstate Highway System begins with several false starts. The Federal Aid Road Act of 1916 granted $75 million dollars to states based on population and the distance of roads constructed. The policy was left dead in the water with the outbreak of the Great War. In 1921, with the so-called “Phipps Act”, the bill was resurrected, and paid for the planning of “interstate routes” across the country by General John J. Pershing. This “Pershing Map” would later serve as a guideline for a large portion of the IHS.
The FAA is a government agency who provides our country with the safest aerospace system in the world today. The FAA was not easily created though it was formed over many years and through the passage of many different bills and acts. The FAA started to take shape in the early 1900's. When the commercial aviation industry was first getting its start many leaders believed that without proper regulation and safety rules, that were set by the federal government, the aviation industry would not succeed. So to achieve their goal Congress passed the Air Commerce Act of 1926. This act made the Secretary of Commerce responsible for making aviation rules, regulations and certifying pilots and aircrafts. It also created an Aeronautics Branch in the Department of Commerce, which oversaw everything about aviation. This Branch of the Government was headed by William MacCracken, and it was the first predecessor to the FAA.

There have been decades of debate within Australia, focusing on the need and construction of a second Sydney Airport. Deemed a controversial topic of discussion, it was first advocated for by the State Government back in 1962. The State Planning Authority (SPA) was appointed as the head of planning and development for both the airport and the entire Western Sydney region (ABC News, 2014). Their mission is to protect Gilder’s quality of life, environment, and historical resources.
