The novel “Animal Farm” written by George Orwell revolves around the themes of dreams, hopes and plans. In the novel these themes clash with one another and bring out the turmoil in the novel. The writer has carefully chosen the appropriate characters which are helpful to bring out these themes. The animals in the farm, who insanely fallowed the dreamy utopian concepts which promised them a world of which everyone works well with each other and is happy, finally trapped and enslaved by the same concepts they fallowed. Anyone may argue that it is the self-centered rulers, the pigs who have power over the poor animal transform ‘the dream of a better or more perfect society in “Animal Farm” into a totalitarian nightmare.’ This paper discusses ‘the main causes that transformed the dream of a better or more perfect society in “Animal Farm” into a totalitarian nightmare’, such as intellectual inferiority, violation of rules and regulation, lack of education and awareness in relation to the “actions” and the behavior of the subjected animals. After the succession of their rebellion “the animals worked like slaves. But they were happy in their work; they grudged no effort or sacrifice, well aware that everything that they did was for the benefit of themselves and those of their kind who would come after them, and not for a pack of idle, thieving human beings.” (6.1) The writer mocks at their ignorance ironically by saying that they were “well aware” of the procedure that is functioning. Their intellectual inferiority is evident through it from the beginning. This particular nature of the animals invites and signals the rulers, the pigs that they are ready to be subjected. This intellectual inferiority, causes the amendment of the seventh ... ... middle of paper ... .... Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. 3. No animal shall wear clothes. 4. No animal shall sleep in a bed. 5. No animal shall drink alcohol. 6. No animal shall kill any other animal. 7. All animals are equal.” (2.22) But they let the pigs to violate them. If their dreamy utopian world was a tree, the commandments are like roots. But, they are not fully aware whether they are functioned properly or, they are miss-interpreted. That also causes the downfall of their dream world of happiness. As mentioned it is obvious that the hopes of the animals for a better life are affected by their own irresponsible behavior. They lost it because of their inability to protect what they gained. The above mentioned points are resulted by their behavior and they are responsible for turning their sweet dream of having a better life into a nightmare. I
The original book Animal Farm by George Orwell is more detailed then the movie Animal Farm. However, there are still similarities and differences between them. The plot for both of these are essentially the same. The plot is this, the pigs of Animal Farm become dictators after a rebellion against farmers. They have all of the other animals for slave labor on the farm and are worse than their previous owner farmer Jones. They both have the same theme too, but is developed two slightly different ways. The theme is essentially this, there are the suppressed animals that rebelled against their suppressor which is farmer Jones. When they got rid of farmer Jones there then came a pig named Napoleon and he was very diligent and frugal. He
There are several themes in Animal Farm, some including: Leadership and corruption, control of naïve working class, lies and deception, and dreams and hopes. The main themes in Animal Farm leadership and corruption. Animal Farm portrays the history of the Russian Revolution by retelling the development of communism. In the novel, by overthrowing Mr. Jones, the animals give the power to the pigs who take complete control of the farm. The struggle for superiority between Leon Trotsky, a Russian revolutionary, and Stalin, a Soviet statesman, is portrayed by the rivalry between the pigs, Napoleon and Snowball. In both cases, the less powerful one, Trotsky and Snowball, is eliminated by the more superior one, Stalin and Napoleon. Stalin's rule and abandonment of the founding principles of the Russian Revolution are portrayed when the pigs adopt human traits and behaviors, which they originally tried to escape. “Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from ...
In the beginning of the story Old Major gives a speech to the animals on the farm, and in this speech he mentions how cruel the humans are. During his speech Old Major uses Boxer the horse as an example when he says “You, Boxer, the very day that those great muscles of yours lose their power, Jones will sell you to the knacker, who will cut your throat and boil you down for the foxhounds.” (Orwell 11). He then proceeds to tell the animals that once they revolt the cruelty will end, and at first it does, but soon the pigs begin to act more like humans. The pigs act so much like the humans that at the end of the book it is said that the other animals can’t even tell the difference between the pigs and the humans.
How would you handle being underfed, overworked, naive, unequal and absolutely controlled? Would you feel like all your work was being done for the good of someone else? What if you became trapped by an absolute and supreme leader? The animals of Manor Farm know all these feelings. They want a community for the animals, by the animals, where all are equal and work is done for the good of the animals.

In today’s world, people have always strived to create a utopian society. In the novel ANIMAL FARM written by George Orwell, the animals strive to create their own utopian society based on equality and prosperity. Animalism was created to, as like the Ten Commandments, Animalism’s Seven Commandments were rules for the animals to live by. However, similar to God’s rules, Animalism was a difficult concept for all the animals to follow and live by. Secondly, the collapse of Animal Farm was due to the animal’s own intelligence and their ability to fully understand how the farm was being run. Finally, the failure of Animal Farm was due to in large part by the pigs power over the other animals and the greed and desires that the pigs wanted to achieve. Therefore, the collapse of Animal Farm had to do with Animalism itself, the animals, and the corruption of the pigs.
"He who wants to persuade should put his trust not in the right argument, but in the right word. The power of sound has always been greater than the power of sense."
I personally thought animal farm was a really good book. It was a simple, easy to read story. The analysis of this book is pretty easy to figure out. Animal farm represents
After establishing a new rule with pigs as leaders, the utopian society is, in their eyes, finally created. “the animals were happy as they had never conceived it possible to be”. The utopia in the book is defined by seven commandments, each are important for their society. As those commandments are broken one by one, and farm animals are still confident of the high quality of their lives, the perfect utopia melts before their eyes. However, they are unable to see it because they fear both the old regime and new leaders. In addition, they are not educated enough to be able to form their own opinions, and most importantly, their definition of freedom is severely distorted and not clearly defined. The animals get manipulated by each other and even their leader, Napoleon helps to corrupt the. WIth a leader, there is going to be corruption and same without. In a Utopian society everything is perfect, it only lasts a short while in Animal
After the Animal Revolution the pigs take the initiative and place themselves in charge because of their claim of having higher intelligence. Over time this power begins to distort the basis of their revolt by recreating the same social situation they were previously in. “When the pigs takeover they claim that their goal is to preside a farm of equal animals, all working together to support one another, yet power quickly proves too much for a pig.” Though the animals originally took over the farm to increase the animal’s independence as a whole, because of the pig’s superiority they soon take the place of the humans further limiting their independence.
Author, George Orwell published his novel, Animal Farm in the mid 1940’s. it is a dark, “Fairy story”, describing an imaginary society of animals living in a farm, under miserable conditions, being treated badly by the farm’s owners, Mr & Mrs Jones. Their rebellion under its rule and the creation of a new system of living leading to that new systems’ eventual decline. Whilst this fable is based on Orwell’s view of political systems of a totalitarian nature at the time, in particular communism, it is equally indicative of many other political systems that seek to control its population and not allowing individual freedom under its authority.
Pigs walking on two feet, horses and sheep talking. This is how George Orwell satirizes human nature in his classic novel Animal Farm. Animal Farm is an allegory of the Russian Revolution of 1917. The title of the book is also the setting for the action in the novel. The animals in the story decide to have a revolution and take control of the farm from the humans. Soon the story shows us how certain groups move from the original ideals of the revolution to a situation where there is domination by one group and submission by all the others. The major idea in this story is the political corruption of what was once a pure political ideal. Orwell uses satire to ridicule human traits in his characters such as Napoleon and Squealer. There are several different characters in the novel utilizing animals as symbols of people in real life during the Russian Revolution. Napoleon is the leader of the pigs that ultimately come to dominate the farm. The characteristics that we associate with pigs , lazy, greedy, and pushy are meant to symbolize the characteristics that the leaders of the Russian Revolution exhibited. Napoleon is admired by all of the animals because he is their leader. All of the animals believe that their leader wants to fulfill all of their needs. They also are convinced that Napoleon’s decisions are made the best interest of the animals. Napoleon’s piglike qualities are shown throughout the story. He exhibited greediness when he sold the dying horse, Boxer to a slaughterhouse for money so that he and the other pigs could purchase whiskey. Orwell ridicules human nature through Napoleon in the sense that he is trying to show how the greedy and power hungry eventually end in corruption.
The animals that live on the Animal Farm are victims of Jones and his way of living, but they could have changed their fate before the rebellion. The pigs are shown to be very intellectual, they can read and write. This make them far superior to the other animals on the farm. If the pigs have so much knowledge, then they know how to change their way of life. This is shown because they are the ones one are ultimately in charge of the rebellion and later in charge of the farm.
In George Orwell's novel Animal Farm he writes a fairy tale with a meaning. In other words, it is about a bunch of animals living on a farm that decide to rebel against all humans starting with running their owner off by attack. This is compared to the Russian Revolution which is what I will be talking about in the paper. I will state which animal played which role and compare the animal to the person for whom they portray.
Toward the end of the novel the pigs will have broken all of these commandments, which lead to their demise.
