How the Connection Works
Identity can come from how others treat the characters or how they portray the characters Jason, Annie, and Francis. “The Circle” by Dave Eggers introduced Francis as a peculiar young man trying to find a social aspect of life. His intention was trying to find ways to not come off as the awkward anti-social guy, but in sorts more of the person who knows what he wants in life and how to execute that. Francis had a bit of trouble in the book with women, “Mae for a second… trying to parse his statement or his intentions. I think you’re strange” (36). They confide around people using people to help with the better of themselves, but see that all this quickly back fires reading throughout the book; and as well as watching throughout the movie seeing how they change, how they cling, how they survive. Jason seeming to be distant from his father: trying to find a way for him to see he needs him someone talk to, but he doesn’t voice that till the end “I know that father he is nothing like you… nothing at all” (Disconnect). He shows a weak side to him looking searching for someone to latch on to who he knows that will listen to his problems and be there to care for him. He finds that easy target name “Ben Boyd” he not only messes with this kid as a fake person, but tells him what’s going on in his life using him as a catalyst to his pain. As soon as he’s around his friend he starts to ruin his life and bully as a way to forget. In the end, he shows his true colors being weak and someone who needs his father. Annie in the Circle shows her strong head and uses that to her advantage and seeing in the beginning of the book it doesn’t matter if you are her friend of not she goes a little over board on pranks and stating things out about individuals. Annie being a bit mean at times: pranking mae on her first day that “maes eyes started to well up… maybe that wasn’t such a good idea” (12) she decide to have a little fun with
