The child that I will be doing a psychological observance on is named Dontrey. Dontrey was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 11th, 1998. His mother Carol is an officer in the US Navy. She was 28 when he was born. She is away in Iraq and Afghanistan for many of his growing years, so she misses out on a lot of his milestones. His maternal grandmother, Nancy is the primary caregiver. His father is not involved in any way. He does not know his father. Dontrey does not having any other siblings. When he was 11 years of age, his mother was killed in a helicopter crash. Throughout this observance I am going to look at various parts of his life and look at his heath mentally, physically and emotional. In chapter one of this course we discussed subjects such as The Life – Span Perspective, The Nature of Development, Theories of Development and Research in Life – Span Development. Through all of Dontreys experiences he had to go through different types of development. Development is the pattern of movement or change that begins at conception and continues through the human life span. …show more content…
The only thing that I want to focus on is Bonding and Emotional/Psychological Adjustments. During Dontrey’s infancy he lacked the bonding between parent and infant. Usually when talking about this subject it is the bond between mother and infant; but, Dontrey lacked this with his father as an infant. This may cause him to resent male figures in his life, or cause a lack of trust. Also, it is said that during the postpartum period the father can provide an important support system for mothers, especially in helping mothers care for young infants. Since Dontrey’s mother did not have this paternal support it was probably very hard for her to raise him on her
By development, according to a Psychologist definition development describes the growth of humans throughout the lifespan, from conception to death. “The scientific study of human development seeks to understand and explain how and why people change throughout life. This includes all aspects of human growth, including physical, emotional, intellectual, social, perceptual, and personality development” (Cherry, What Is Development? , 2011).
The family dynamics of the household changed throughout the years of Dominic’s childhood. When Dominic was born, we lived in a rural neighborhood apartment that was not completely safe (My Virtual Child). Once Dominic’s sister Alexandra was born, we began saving more money and purchased a house in a safe rural neighborhood. At the end of Dominic’s childhood the household consisted of both parents and two children, Dominic and Alexandra. Throughout his childhood, his uncle stayed a summer and on another occasion a different uncle stayed for a few weeks. Both parents were employed throughout the entire childhood which resulted in placing Dominic in child-care as soon as possible (My Virtual Child).
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
Over the past year I have grown as both a person and a writer. My writing has improved
Mattie was a smart “A” student from Brooklyn, New York. Her only brother and twin brother Matthew is an artist that likes to draw and paint. She lives with her mom and brother, she used to live with her dad but he is deceased. One day, on his way from work some drunk drives hit his car and killed him. That day changed their lives forever. When her father left them, he took a part of everybody with him. Mattie and Mathew were only eleven years old when a lost their father, what a horrible loss, and at such a time that you understand how those things work, and you have feelings, one of the many prime times in your life that you need a father. As a result of this great loss, their family became dysfunctional, nobody cleans the house, her mother is never there because she leaves to work early, and comes home really late, and the kids have to make their own dinner. When her father left the family couldn’t take it, they just fell apart, now her mother is always angry and never smiles. It is unusual to me how all this corruption can be caused by 1 man alone, I mean ...
Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood as a kid sanctioned me to perpetually become aware that I was different from my neighbors. Through some social interactions with my friends in elementary schools, I quickly descried that my appearances, such as my hair, eyes, and nose was different from my peers. For instance, my hair was a lot darker than most of my peers’ hair and the texture of my hair was different from most of them. “Grow out your hair” were phrases that lingered throughout my childhood days, where I had my hair at a very short length. Throughout my childhood, I longed to try to be a part of the dominant group in society such as the Caucasians, but I did not do anything to be a part of the bigger group in society. Instead,
Ever since I started talking this class, English 1301, with Dr. Piercy, I have been able to expand my writing and thinking skills. Not only was I able to make more better essays but I also learned important topics such as how education creates an impact in the world. In this essay I will be talking about three writings and how they are related to this course semester. The three writings are “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt, “Why I Write Bad” by Milo Beckman, and “Statement of Teaching Philosophy” by Stephen Booth. How are these 3 writings related to this semester’s course work?
The topic of what happens to those that have, "never heard the good news of Jesus Christ" weighs extremely heavy on my heart. I work with Atheist, Muslim, Hindu and Pluralist in the technology field. Frequently I am attacked just for being a Christian. For a while it was scary to know that I have become a minority in my own country. Some how each time I am attacked I love these guys that much more. My Hindu friend really knew nothing about Jesus before he met me. At lunch one day he asked me about Christianity and I was able to share with him the good news. But for some reason he rebeled and believes the Bible is, "the greatest book of fiction ever created." If not for the revelation God provided about His Word in my second year of Bible school, I probably would be a pluralist myself. I really want everyone I share Jesus with to go to heaven and it use to be tempting to think God might make an exception. However, there is only
Life is a constant cycle of developing. Conversely, development does not stop at physical changes. As they age, people continue to develop cognitively, socially, spiritually, emotionally, and morally. Although, these stages of development are stronger in certain areas of life, they nevertheless provide an interesting view on the human lifespan. Furthermore, studying development in the late stages of life can allow one to view development in its entirety. Not only does one develop throughout life, a person should learn important life lessons along the way.
I come from a household that watches the news often. It was a pattern that was embedded in our lifestyle when my family first fled famine and civil war in Somalia to come to America. Constantly being exposed to the news trained me to notice trends. One of the trends that I noticed was the unfair and dominant role race played in the criminal justice system. Although slavery was abolished with the thirteenth amendment. Many in America still believe that race does not play a prominent role in government, evident in the election of Barack Obama as president. However, the government still uses race as a justification for discrimination, which causes social animosity towards criminals. America’s current justice system allows for legal discrimination
The process of development can be divided into different stages based on perspective. The events that an individual will experience throughout their life span can be linked back to developmental stages. Paul Baltes’s life span perspective revolves around the concept that development is a process that is lifelong, multidirectional, multidimensional, plastic, multidisciplinary, and contextual.
After taking the course CFS/PSY 252, also known as Development in Middle Childhood, I have gained so much knowledge on topics from physical development to peer relationships. I have also conducted extensive research on theorists like John Bowlby, and led group discussions on topics such as bilingual children. More importantly, I learned how much of an impact beliefs, values, socioeconomic status, and the environment has on a child. This course has helped prepare me for the future and realize what a complex time middle childhood can be. Because I do not plan to be working with kids, I think this course will help me if I ever decide to have my own kids. Moreover, it will help me guide my parents and my younger siblings who are either in middle
Before learning about early childhood in this class I never realized all the way children at such a young age are developing. From the second part of this course I learned how much children are developing at the early childhood stage. I never realized children learn how about their emotions, having empathy, and self-concept at such a young age. I thought children had it easy. They play with friends, start school, and just be kids. One important thing that stood out to me in this chapter is that children’s self-esteem starts at this stage. According to Berk (2012), “self-esteem is the judgments we make about our own worth and the feelings associated with those judgments (p. 366)”. Self-esteem is very important for a child to have and it can
Development is an orderly pattern of changes in structure, thoughts, feelings, or behaviors resulting from maturation, experiences, and learning. Development is a dynamic and continuous process as one proceeds through life, characterized by a series of ascents, plateaus, and declines. The human process of growth and development result from the interrelated effects of heredity and environment. Humans simultaneously grow and develop in physical, cognitive, psychological, moral, and spiritual dimensions, with each dimension being an essential part of the whole person. (Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2008, p. 393)
After being an elementary education and special education major at Ball State University, I have had many new teaching experiences. This semester, I was given the opportunity to teach at Burris Laboratory School. It was great to observe a classroom with a teacher who had been teaching for so long! Although I know there will be challenges, I want to continue in the teaching program. EDEL 200 has allowed many experiences that has shown me how to be a successful teacher.
