Robert Barclay Fox, born on 6 September 1817 and died on the tenth of March in 1855 was a businessman, gardener and diarist, and a member of the influential Quaker Fox family of Falmouth. The 1979 edition of Barclay's journal runs from 1832 to 1854, In September 2008, a new edition was published with additional journal entries from 1845 to 1854.To begin my essay, I will explore the main ideas of two diary entries written by Robert Fox in 1836 and what links them together. After that, I will look at its theme’s; the main theme's and its sub themes. Furthermore, I will turn my attention to the literary devices such as the tone and how it affects the mood in more depth before I look at how Fox’s conveys the elements of the human nature. And lastly, I will comment on how some of the five senses (sound, taste, smell, sight, hearing) helps construct vivid visual images of the events that has occurred and I will comment on the structure.
As I stated before, I will explore the subject of both diary entries; the diary entries seem to be in a chronological framework. The first diary entry that I’m first going to talk about was written on the 6th of January in 1836, but the event that was documented in the dairy occurred on the 3rd of December. Robert Fox illustrates the events that had transpired which lead to a group of 11 men, from the crew of a brig called the Agenoria being stranded on a deserted island without the necessary provisions to help keep them alive. This diary entry was narrated from a third person point of view, as it says “After prayer they cut his through and drank the blood”; these lines demonstrate the use of a third person point of view. In the first entry the writer uses the sight sense to help us construct a vivid image of the events that were happening, for example he says “they cut his throat to save his blood” , this gives a realistic view on what was happening. The diary entries seem to have two structures, the first one is description because in the first and second diary entries the writer was describing an event that has happened and he was describing how he was feeling. And the second structure is sequences , since the diary come after each other in a sequence form.
I started this essay by looking at the main ideas of both diary entries, and suggested a strong link between the subject and its theme. Then I analyzed two other devices which are diction and anaphora, before focusing on the literary device - the use of imagery and its effect on the tone and mood of the poem.

As the story unfold the narrator makes several attempts to change the point of view from “I - the criminal” to “I – the nervous storyteller” and detach himself from the events of the story inviting the readers to become witnesses and accomplices. In the story close connection between the choice of language, tone, symbolism and the mental state of the narrator is traced. Vivid descriptions of visual and aural perception of the narrator, which are reflected in the story’ symbolism, amplify the dramatic effect. In the circumstances the pulsation of the heart becomes the only tangible component of the narrative giving the pulsation to the whole text and leading to the revelation. The story ends abruptly intensifying the impression of the account of a madman.

Most of students who study literature have experienced a trouble when they understand poetry. There are many genres in literature; poem, novel, drama, myth and so on. Generally, people do not have a difficult comprehension of a variety of literary genres except poem. In case of poem, even people read a poem, they do not understand what that means perfectly. Because, unlike other genres of literature, poetry consists of short sentences. Some of poems are not made up of grammatically correct sentences. Also, poetry has implications. Sometimes, the words a poet use have a different meaning, unlike original meaning. A figure of speech helps expression of topic of a poem more effectually. Theme relates to a mood and is an important clue what the poet want to say. Both “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” and “Because I Not Stop for Death” have a theme of death. Compare and contrast the figure of speech and the theme of death in the poem Dylan Thomas’s “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” and Emily Dickinson’s “Because I could Not Stop for Death” in this research paper.
The setting is London in 1854, which is very different to anything we know today. Johnson’s description of this time and place makes it seem like a whole other world from the here and now....

For this written task, I have chosen to write a diary based on Ophelia’s perspective of the events. A diary is a form of autobiographical writing kept to record activities and reflections. It allows for further insight on the writer’s thoughts and feelings, given that it provides a sense of frankness dissimilar to those of other writing forms.
Although the imagery in each poem is distinct, the similarity of message in both poems is evident. The poems are similar in that the narrator’s lives are empty and contain no passion for pursuing anything. The ideas reflected in these poems are seen even today, in such things as listless living and job-related apathy. Both poems suggest that a life where dreams of meaningless things are pursued will end without purpose or significance.
Cecily mentions her diary to Algernon and she explains “it is simply a very young girl’s record of her own thought sand impressions and consequently meant for publication.
