The Causes Of Global Warming

816 Words2 Pages

Global warming has become one of the world’s greatest issues in the past decade. The gradual increase of the earth’s overall temperature in the atmosphere caused by the release of carbon dioxide and other pollutants have influenced this matter. Over the course of many years, many other factors have played a role in global warming. Human activity has been targeted for being one of the most effective causes.
Although humans play the biggest role in global warming, there are other aspects that help influence it. The greenhouse effect is the process in which the earth’s atmosphere traps heat coming from the sun making the Earth warm but because humans burn fossil fuels and cut trees, the concentration of heat on the Earth increases due to abnormal levels of gases. Carbon dioxide, as well as methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor are greenhouse gases that occur naturally in the atmosphere (Schneider, 2008). Together all these gases keep the Earth warm. When the levels of concentrations of these gases increase it disturbs climatic conditions causing the Earth to be warmer than usual. Carbon dioxide levels are always higher in concentrations because human activities contribute most to the release of carbon dioxide. Fossil fuel combustion in changes in the land have caused carbon dioxide to be released at an accelerated rate (Gay, 1986). Concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have steadily increased over the years.
Oil, gas, and coal are used on a day to day basis. These fossil fuels are preserved forms of carbon and when they are burned carbon is released and combined forming carbon dioxide. Burning these fossil fuels in large amounts, as we do, adds extra carbon dioxide to the earth’s atmospher...

...no matter what. If we cannot stop the growth of human population, the only thing left to do is to reduce the amount of carbon being released. We should not take the Earth for granted. Although it is nice to have an efficient way of to make power, we should remember it has a huge consequence. If we chose to use solar power, rather than coal or petroleum to heat a house or building it could reduce carbon emissions dramatically. Using renewable resource for power sources instead of nonrenewable resources would make a world of difference. There are many things we can do to help reduce carbon emissions. Humans are using more energy than ever and there needs to be an alternative way to help decrease global warming problems. Solar, wind, and hydropower are new effective alternatives but because coal and gas products are easier to access, we tend to use them more often.
