“The word delinquency is a harsh, stigmatizing word. The word serves as foundational rhetoric for more modern, yet equally stigmatizing language used to marginalize youth and families” (Jordan, 2017). There has been adequate amount of time and energy spent for the justice system to narrow down in hopes to try and understand the causes of delinquency. A study has been discovered by the National Center for Juveniles, that approximately around 1 to 4 arrests that were made were due to property crimes constituted by juveniles. Contributions to the various amounts of factors caused by crimes by juveniles, for instance, lack of education, on and off school attendance, peer pressure, school and gang interactions and substance abuse, just to name …show more content…

Often time adolescents have made the headlines in the news of crimes that they have committed. One being pressured into doing things caused by their peers. There is program called “Forced Outreach” that has been developed by the Police force in New York because of social groups, like gangs. The program was designed to help track at risk children, in hopes to separate them from negative influences of gang activity with helping them think about what they are doing and to make better choices. Our society way heavy on social interactions caused by gangs, however, many reasons for teens to become gang members lack in areas of feeling that family unity so they look up to other gang members to feel some sort of closeness; living in a community that is turmoil where poverty, and/or substance abuse is easily exposed, juveniles are at an all time high risk of joining …show more content…

An effective cognitive development is substance abuse. This allows a child or teenager the ability to trigger their minds in taking risks factors that can contribute to crime. Teens that choose to abuse prescription drugs often times do realize the severity behind taking drugs like Percocet or Vicodin which is on the level of heroin. Those that prescribed the medicine in their minds think it is okay and safe, but we all know our legal system think otherwise and see this as a teen abusing their prescriptions especially if they are caught selling it in schools or even on the streets. This is problematic and if caught at the age of 18 and above, some may be tried as an adult if they are not
