The advancement of technology has brought many convenience and benefits into our lives. Gone were the days when the older generations are needed to walk hundreds and hundreds of miles just to reach a destination and feel very tired and exhausted in the end. During this modern age, we can reach the destination in a very short time and without much energy wasted too. But as we become more dependent to technology, we often abuse it. The rate of factories and automobile being built has increased drastically throughout the years. This has lead to a very worrying problem that is seriously affecting our planet lately; this problem is known as Global Warming. Global warming as its name states is a global phenomenon with a number of effects that is …show more content…
What are the effects of global warming? Effects of global warming happen in a very wide scope. Firstly, the beautiful and magnificent icebergs and ice glaciers in the Arctic and Alaska will start to melt and dissolve into the sea. This indirectly raises the average water level of the earth and thus causes major floods and natural disasters. Take for example; Hurricane Katrina which has destroyed many homes and taken away many lives in New Orleans is caused by the melting of ice glaciers and the imbalance of the sea level in the planet. (Mathias 2007). Other than that, global warming too causes the degrading of the ozone layer due to the extreme heat and dangerous gasses produced by factories, cars and chemicals. Various diseases such as malaria can be caused by global warming. This is because the rise in temperature encourages the breeding of different types of mosquitoes. (DeGaborik 2007). Other than that, global warming can cause heat strokes and heat exhaustions to cardiovascular problem patients. High temperature too causes the concentration of ozone to lower the atmosphere which carries many harmful pollutants which can cause respiratory disease such as
“All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it's here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster” (Barack Obama, April 3, 2006). What could be causing these extreme weather patterns? Scientists say that it is the gradual increase of the temperature over the entire earth. Global warming is the increase in the average temperature all over the earth. Global Warming is a major problem in the world today and is argued among all of the world leaders. I am going to talk about how the global warming crisis is being caused. Also, what the people of the world can do to stop the acceleration of the global warming. There are people in the world that believe that there is another reason why this is happening; earth is experiencing a natural cycle of evolution. Global warming is a very serious part of the world and a solution needs to be found immediately.
The effects of global warming touch every human, animal, plant, ocean, landmass, and atmosphere level on this planet. The numerous effects of global warming are mixes of "good" and "bad" results, depending on how your definition of "good" results and "bad" results are. A "good" effect, a person could say, would be for regions with normally cold temperatures to receive warmer temperatures for their normal. Yet, there are more "bad" effects that seem to out weight the "good" effects. Some of the effects would include increases of flooding, severe storm systems, and rising sea-levels. One major consequence would be an increase of temperature globally. This would give a chain reaction that would change temperatures and precipitation within many ecosystems. Which could cause a possible alteration in migration routes of various animals or produce permanent damage to creatures and their habitats, or worse, result in extinction for sensitive organisms that cannot handle the change. An example of a sensitive organism is the coral reef. This vital creature serves as a home, feeding area, and shelter for many fish, plants, and animals living in the shallow water domain. The degradation by global warming of this essential species is discussed more in-depth below.
Global warming causes our fresh water glaciers to melt, leaving us with less and less drinking water everyday. Global warming also causes various diseases to spread faster. We need to stop the global warming before it gets any worse, before we have no water and before we all die from communicable, global warming-spawn diseases.
Global warming has been a hot topic for generations. Questions like, "Is it natural or man-made?", "What is causing it?", and "How can we reduce it?", have stumped scientists and engineers. Most people think that reducing global warming means having to buy expensive "green" contraptions or driving electric cars (which can be dangerous due to their small size, and can take hours to charge). Those would be great things to do to reduce our impact on global climate change, but unfortunately, in our current economic state, most people don't have that kind of money. Fortunately, there are effective and cost-efficient ways to reduce global warming and live a cleaner, greener and healthier life. There are many theories as to why global warming is happening. Some point more towards the theory that humans might be causing it, and others point more towards the theory that it is a natural cause, but one thing is for sure: The climate is changing and if we don't do something soon, the Earth may face harmful, and even deadly consequences.
Global warming has become a world wide issue and an issue that is causing great controversy. It is an increase in the earth's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution (Dictionary). Global warming is a natural process, but because of increase in certain activities this process is taking a faster and more dangerous route creating global problems. Global warming was first theorized in 1894 by Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier a French mathematician, who noticed the earth was gradually increasing in temperature. He came to the conclusion that the earth’s atmosphere was trapping solar radiation caused by the sun and reflecting this radiation back to earth (History of Global Warming). This theory by Fourier became known as the “greenhouse effect”. In simpler terms the greenhouse effect is where the temperature rises because the sun’s heat and light is trapped in the earth’s atmosphere. In the past one hundred fifty years the average global temperatures have taken a sharp turn upward. The 20th century’s ten warmest years all occurred in the last fifteen years. Also the 20th century was the warmest globally in the last 600 years (Global Warming and Carbon Dioxide, 3). Effects of this increase are the melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, more frequent heat waves and droughts, and heavy rainfall. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil are a main source to why the greenhouse effect is being enhanced and likely contributing to global warming (Global Warming and Carbon Dioxide, 4). To hinder this increase in the global warming process we must reduce CO2 emission, we have to use different sources of energy, and we must recycle.
Global Warming Earth’s temperature is a vital aspect of Earth and its surroundings. The atmospheric temperature, along with natural gases, is the significant reason why Earth inhabits all of its life. When there are changes that alter the natural effects of Earth’s environment, there are factors that place the environment at risk. Increased warming of global temperatures accounts as a major concern of Earth’s surroundings. Global warming is a prominent source of concern for how and why the environment, coastal zones, water resources, agriculture, food supply, and the health of human life have changed.
One enormous problem caused by it is the melting of ice worldwide especially at the earth’s poles. As a result of the melting of the ice, the sea levels have risen by a huge percentage resulting in coastal flooding worldwide. The salinity of the oceans has decreased due to all the fresh water added by melting ice. Many creatures that depended on certain types of habitat have gone extinct. For a example, polar bears who live in the icy regions are losing their habitat and many are destroyed due the melting of large regions of ice in the polar regions. In many regions of the world the weather patterns have vastly changed, causing strong hurricanes and storms that are destructive. Most of these storms and hurricanes are caused due to the temperature rise in the sea. This also kills corals reefs. One other major problem with Global Warming is water scarcity. Many regions such as California that had many areas covered with water are now regions with just deserts. Lack of water causes tree to die resulting in soil erosion (Economist). California is not the only region affected by this, countries such as Africa, Somalia and Sudan are also affected resulting in many deaths of animals and humans living in those particular regions (NASA). Not having enough water also causes in food shortages due to dying of plants and animals. This is the main reason why many deaths are caused in the countries mentioned above. In many
Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren’t any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and will lead to several problems that affect the environment in which we humans live in. These problems can lead to warmer temperatures all around the world, it can endanger animals and the wildlife, and it can lead to widespread flooding from the glaciers melting. Here are a few more future effects that I will discuss in more detail about. Damage to human health, Severe stress on forests, wetlands, and other natural habitats, how fish will be affected. Global warming is a serious problem that will affect our generation when we are older.
We are living in a clean world; eating and drinking whatever we want, swimming in
One of the biggest problems the world faces today is global warming. It refers to an increase in average global temperature that causes change in climate and affects other resources in the world. Global temperatures have significantly increased over the past few decades. According to the Global temperature statistics by NASA, the average temperature has increased from -0.22 Degree Celsius in 1880 to +0.56 Degree Celsius in 2012 (NASA, n.d.). This essay will examine the main effects of global warming by looking at the threats to wildlife and habitat, rise in sea level, and health impacts on humans.
Many climate scientists, researchers, and environmentalists are expressing concerns about shifts in the overall climate of the earth. It is believed that a dramatically dangerous warming is taking place in the overall global climate, a problem that is referred to as "global warming”. Global warming is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of Earth’s climate system. This temperature rise is due to the damaging effects of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. It is our responsibility to preserve our planet and our way of living but in order to do that we need to act now. If we continue to destroy the planet with no regard as to how serious this matter is there could be several negative effects to us as human being and other living thing on Earth. This is why global warming is truly a global issue and needs to be tackled collectively. We must to act now in order to reduce the dangerous levels of carbon dioxide emissions and we must to work together.
As we approach the future we are faced with many global problems. Most of these problems arise because we have caused them ourselves. We need to face these problems and find a solution. Global warming, although most often overlooked in importance, is a crucial problem of the future directly related to human activities. Global warming is caused by gases humans release into the atmosphere called anthropogenic gases and by deforestation. Anthropogenic gases include carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrofl...
The Effects of Global Warming on Our Planet Global warming, professionally also called the climate change represents nowadays a critical global issue posing a serious potential threat. This simply means that the average temperature of our planet is slowly rising. This however is not due to the natural causes as it was in the past but due to people and their activities, which permit the so-called greenhouse gases to be emitted into the atmosphere. This has already taken its toll in terms of altering the weather and subsequently the conditions of the whole planet and might also have consequences for the future.
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
As Robert Frost once said, “ Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire.” This excerpt can relate to the idea of global warming. Global warming can be defined as an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect. During the past 10,000 years the earth has been in an ever-growing cycle that has significantly changed the climate. These changes are becoming more prevalent in our world today in the past 150 years. Scientists have been analyzing the causes and effects of the greenhouse effect and many other issues that global warming has presented. As John Houghton states in his book, Global Warming the Complete Briefing, on page 2 “ The 1980s and 1990s were unusually warm. Globally speaking, the decades have been the warmest since accurate records began somewhat over a hundred years ago and these unusually warm years are continuing into the twenty-first century.” There are countless records that show that our world as a whole is getting warmer, and the facts cannot be disputed. Everyone in the world today is experiencing the effects of global warming. These effects might be small now, but if we don’t protect our planet now then the consequences will greatly be increased.
