Every little kid has high exceptions for what they want to be when they grow up. Some dream of becoming president of the United States of America, or becoming an Astronaut, a lot of little kid’s say that they want to be a Doctor. What kids do not understand is that there are many types of doctors, like an orthopedic surgeon, they work with feet, or an oral surgeon, who work with the mouth. Another similarity to a doctor is a nurse practitioner. They do many of the same tasks, like performing minor surges, fixing broken bones, or simply giving a routine check up. Becoming a nurse practitioner takes many years of schooling, good grades, a lot of time and dedication, and money.

Taking care of infants, documentation of medical records, prescribing medication, and performing surgeries. Pediatrician need lots of schooling, training, and practice before they get out there on their own. Just think about it would you want someone working on your kids with no practice or training? Classes that they need are biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, pre med, medicine, cardiology, surgery, orthopedics, and pediatric. The training needed is things such as three - years residency and any other training that will help them. Another thing they have to have to be a pediatrician is they have to have good personal qualities such as communication skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and lots of patience. They need practice on these skills almost as much as they do to get the career they are wanting.
The study of Pediatrics began in the 1800's under the influence of Abraham Jacobi (Hockenberry, etal). Jacobi went on to open a childrens clinic in the New York Medical College. "Pediatrics became a separate discipline from obstetrics"(Pearson 2005). Since that time pediatric nursing has greatly advanced. The first children's hospital in the United States opened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1855 with the purpose to decrease childhood mortality rates through research.
There are are many different careers in the medical world, my favorite being a pediatrician. I have always loved being around little kids and making them laugh which is one of the main reasons why I want to be a pediatrician. I’ve wanted to be a pediatrician since I was 11 years old; many of my friends would laugh because they didn’t think I was capable of becoming a doctor, but like my mom says “when you want something, don’t give up until you have it”. A pediatrician is a doctor who treats infants, children, and young adults. They diagnose and treat diseases, injuries and much more(asthma, allergies, etc). But being a pediatrician requires so much dedication and hard work , and I know it’s not going to be easy but I’m willing to do it.
What is a pediatrician? Pediatricians are doctors who specialize and focus in caring for babies to young adults (Career Cruising). They deal with childhood diseases and the care of infants with health and sickness (Elberts). The typical upper age limit of patients is from age twelve to age twenty-one (NetMed Pediatrics). They have to treat their patients as if he or she were going to change the world. Pediatricians complete many tasks in a day’s time. They perform physical exams and order tests that will diagnose diseases and injuries that have occurred. They advise surgery and medications and may also help patients through puberty and family problems (Career Cruising). It is their responsibility to make sure the patients are not only healthy, but also safe and happy. Some pediatricians communicate with social workers, family members, and health care workers to understand the entire situation as best as they can (Career Cruising). If the patient seems to have more personal problems, pediatricians have the opportunity to send them to other doctors like a psychiatrist for treatment. Others work as advocates by educating the community about car safety and the benefits from school breakfast (Career Cruising).
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.
When Hippocrates discovered that the growing and maturing organisms needed a special attention ─rather than the already developed organisms─ hospitals began creating separate shelters for children to be cared for in. At this time, “…the world had no idea they would be saving so many lives in the future” (Hope Lives Here). In the year of 1802, Hôpital des Enfants Malades (French for Hospital for Sick Children), was opened in Paris to separate the children from the adults. “Before these buildings were opened, most illnesses that children contracted were treated at home because infants and children admitted to adult hospitals of...
My career choice is to become a pediatrician. The question is: what makes this job so interesting or fantastic enough to be chosen? This job requires many sacrifices, skills, and strengths to endeavor the obstacles on the way to the goal. This particular job is also a very honorable and noble job in the sense of helping children with their illnesses and ailments. Personally, I love children and I’m always fascinated by their actions and interesting techniques of expressing themselves. Since I am intrigued by the children’s personality I love spending time with them (and that’s why their child-like ways rub off on me). Thus, I believe that my own childish personality and my love of children will motivate me in the near future to help them out with their medical needs. Also, being a pediatrician and helping out children has its own rewards. Not only will I be doing something I enjoy, but I will be getting paid a generous price as well. A pediatrician’s salary is not the highest one compared to surgeons or cardiologists, but it’s enough to have a life that is something more than simply satisfying. Another good aspect of this job is that they only focus on the health of children rather than all of the age groups. An adult and a child are so different they are nearly two different species. If a child is brought to a doctor who specializes in all age groups, the child would not be getting the same kind of attention that he or she would be getting, compared to that from a doctor who specializes only in children. Doctors that specialize in all age groups are used to make quick, rough, and fundamental actions need for the healing of the patient. One does not simply treat a child the same way an adult would be treated. The child would becom...
From treating kids to reassuring anxious parents, I have found all aspects of pediatric speciality interesting. During my time with 'shaishav organization ' and ‘Smile foundation’ gave me a strong grounding in many of the roles and responsibilities of pediatrician and has definitely been a life altering experience. I am sure that the skills that I have developed through 'Shaishav’ and ‘Smile’ will be an excellent grounding for my future career. The satisfactions I received knowing that I had made a difference in the lives of so many who were so young and vulnerable went down to my very soul. I knew that pediatrics was where I truly

Working with children can be very different than working with adults. When working with children it is important to gain an understanding of the child, their family or care provider as well as the environment in which they are in. The purpose of this paper is to discuss what excites us as well as concerns us about pediatrics as well as discuss a nursing theory to guide our practice in pediatrics as well as provide a timeline of our activities.
