Lawyer: David Baldacci once said “ As a lawyer, as a private citizen you see a lot of injustice. You see a lot of people who should have been punished and are not, and people who are wrongfully punished not vindicated. Fiction is sort of a way to set the record straight, and let people at least believe that justice can be achieved and the right outcomes can occur.” His words sum up the exact reason why I chose this career path. It is not fair that the people who get wrongfully accused of committing heinous crimes never get the help that they deserve and the people who are actually out committing the crimes get to go home and be with their families and live happy lives. I will even go as far as to say it upset me to a certain degree …show more content…
In this career it does not matter whether or not you are a man or woman since the two sexes are relatively equal in regards to how they are treated, how much they make, and what opportunities are available to them. Most firms only look at the experience that you have and any records of cases that have been tried by that individual looking for a job if there are any. The more experience that a person has the better. Interning at different firms doing various tasks associated with the job looks very good on a resume`. As far as health goes, a lawyer does not need to be healthy physically, but mentally it is a must. Since this is a challenging field one must be able to think on their feet and remember a surplus of rules and procedures. A lawyer’s personality is not the most important aspect of the job, however, it is good to have some sense of respect along with manners and communication skills for networking purposes. Networking is key in this field because if a lawyer is not able to network, it will be extremely difficult to receive promotions and other special opportunities. To get into the field you need at least 7 years of schooling after high school. In these 7 years a person needs to dedicate at least 4 years of schooling to an undergraduate program, taking classes that will prepare them for the vigorous work that will have to be …show more content…
I always found their jobs to be fascinating and very interesting. I also believe that is beneficial and rewarding because you essentially hold the key to someone’s life in your hands. Constance Baker Motley once said “ When I was 15, I decided that I wanted to be a lawyer. No one thought that this was a good idea”. Now that I am 15 years old and I have my whole life ahead of me, I have been told countless times that me becoming a lawyer is not really a good idea. I have been told to become an engineer or a doctor maybe even a cop. These are great jobs and the people that do these jobs are truly amazing, however, these jobs are simply just not for me. I rather be a lawyer because not only will I enjoy this field more than the others but I get to help people using my abilities. I want to help people the best way I can and the only way I can is by taking the skills that I have and applying them to the lawyer career
In “The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust Society” by Jeffrey Reiman he offers a detailed explanation of many different ways to define justice and allows the reader to fully comprehend the meaning of it. Before he even began explaining justice he gave his own experience with crime as way to convey to the reader how his rights had been violated and he had been filled with anger at the criminals instead of the justice that failed him. This first hand encounter with crime allowed Reiman to prove to readers that justice is what is what protects us and it is the criminals who are the problem. To see that even a man who had thought and written about nothing but crime for thirty-five years could still become
I think that one of the most important parts about this job it that it helps people, probably not in the way most people would like it, but it can help certain people. It helps especially in trials, when the prosecutor or defender needs evidence against the criminal to prove his or her innocence.
The National Advisory Commission on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals set a limit that each criminal defense attorney can take 150 felony cases per year, but “caseloads of 500, 600, 800, or more are common” (“Five Problems”). With that, criminal defense attorneys are forced to triage or reject cases, leaving potential clients to go to court without representation. If the defendant does have a public attorney, their defense is unprepared and vulnerable to make mistakes when working out a reasonable sentence. In one of his cases, Jones and his client accepted a deal with the prosecution for a three year sentence for stealing locks. Upon further investigation, the prosecution discovered that they made a mistake in calculating the minimum sentence – Jones’s client should have only served “366 days,” but it was already too late (Eckholm).
Imagine a tall slim man dressed in a very respectable iron pressed suit, with a tie that’s perfect length and fits nicely with the colors of his blazer. To go along with his suit, he carries a very affluent briefcase with a matching belt and shoes. This is the typical perception from students of someone that works in the legal profession, including the consumption of time spent on only work along with having a very stern look. However, a look at how it’s shown in the film To Kill a Mockingbird, it shows that things like standing for justice, having integrity, and being family-oriented plays a huge role in the lives of lawyers.
College isn't just a great opportunity, but can also be life changing. Attending Harvard University will be one of the greatest opportunity for me, due to their vast activities and outstanding educational programs.
An attorney is like any other profession, such as a doctor, mechanic, accountant, or engineer, there are good ones, and there are bad ones. With lawyers, it is extra tough for the average person to tell the difference. Also, in a civil courthouse you do not get to pick your lawyer, you take what they give you. One attorney states that "50 percent of all people engaged in litigation will end up hating, at least, two lawyers," (Case). There are the lawyers who graduated from law school, passed the Bar Exam, and are licensed to practice law in the state, but seem to have no idea how to defend a client in a criminal case at trial due to lack of experience. Some lawyers lose sight of maintaining post-conviction alternative routes for their customers. Another source agrees quotes "The reality is that prosecutorial misconduct is at least as serious a problem at the local level, where prosecutors are less well-trained" (Lindorff). Finding an experienced lawyer who is all for the client is not as easy as it seems, but they do

While pursuing my criminal justice degree at the University of Phoenix, justice is a topic that has arisen constantly and defined differently be numerous individuals. After many discussions involving this topic in the courses, I was able to define justice and what it means to me. Although I do not currently work in the field, the classmates who have experience in the field brought great personal experiences to the discussions. University of Phoenix has also contributed to my definition of justice through the facilitators. The facilitators currently work in the field they are teachi...
Attorneys ensure that society has a place to seek and obtain justice, giving confidence that restitution and retribution can occur within the law. Attorneys have a difficult job. They must know the laws like they know the back of their hands. Attorneys attend school just as long or even longer than most doctors. They have the difficult job of defending their clients or prosecuting the bad guys.
My major is Paralegal Studies and I expect to graduate with an Associates of Arts degree in December of this year. Many years ago, as an investigator for both a private company and a county agency, I was introduced to the legal field. Recently, I was awarded the opportunity to attend college, so I decided I wanted to reenter the legal profession as a paralegal. The paralegal profession appeals to me, because I enjoy the processes of developing a case, as well as its legal aspects. A paralegal is involved in a case from the beginning to the end; from the initial client interview to assisting the attorney during the client’s trial or the settlement process. My goal is to become a paralegal for a solo practitioner or a small firm in my local area who represent clients in different areas of the law.
Criminal Justice is a legal framework incorporating the applications of the law with various governmental entities to ensure lawful policies and procedures are adhered to and impose a penalty when such laws are violated. The scope of the Criminal Justice System is separated into three branches: Legislative (laws and statutes), Adjudication (courts), and Corrections (jails, prisons, parole and probation).
Paralegals are a crucial part of the criminal justice system. They are some of the hardest workers in the legal system, yet are sometimes underappreciated. It seems as though being a paralegal can stressful, exhausting, and overwhelming, but many find this worth the stress because they are challenged to solve problems, think creatively, and are making a difference and improving the lives of others. Overall, paralegals perform a range of duties that make them a vital part of the justice system, and though this job is stressful, it has benefits as well.
While attaining a degree in your undergraduate studies, you must select a major that will be of some assistance and relevance to your particular law career. For example, if you want to be a corporate lawyer, you should major in business or if you want to be a judge, you should major in political science. After attaining your degree in your chosen major, you must attend law school.
“Go to school and become a successful lawyer” was the only thing I heard growing up. When you think of the elite jobs in the world lawyers is right up there. If you have the dedication and drive you could one day be a famous a lawyer. You never know one day you could be as famous as Johnnie Cochron or Leslie Abramson. Both are famously known for being great criminal defense lawyers. They are considered the best at what they do. Johnnie Cochron is most known for his defense in the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Ms. Abramson is most known for being the defense attorney for the Menendez brothers when they were on trial for the murder of their parents.
