The most mysterious part of the human body is the brain. The reason for this is because for several years people wondered if we can literally grow the brain like a muscle. Like a muscle in any other part of our body we need to exercise it, by this I propose to challenge your brain with equations or activities that you are not usually custom of doing or not good at. These activities would grow your brain in intelligence and in mass. Why do I say this? The reason why I say this is because, in research, animals have been shown that animals in captivity have no cranial expansion, but animals with toys and that are surrounded by challenging surrounding and areas are shown that there brain have gain ten percent more brain mass over time. The most interesting part of this assignment was how to be able to grow your brain just by challenging it in situations that need processing power from your mind or time to think. One way to expand your brain in math would be practicing good techniques to solve problems and doing challenging equations. By doing this I learned people can grow parts of their brain, as shown in the juggling experiment which shows that people who practice this activity have increased and improved their motor and visual parts of their brain. …show more content…
From learning about growing the brain by hard work and good ways to solve problems, this means that going to tutors that have knowledge of math and physics. By learning lessons and ways to solve problems from tutors, would get me closer to reach my goals as a college student. So in conclusion it is possible to grow your brain, this is possible at any age of a person 's life. Even animals can grow there brain shown in studies, therefor dogs can learn new skills and tricks. The most important part of growing your brain is having good ways to do problems and at the same time have hard working
...be able to look at a graph and tell me if it is positively or negatively sloped, what the x- and y-intercepts are, and tell me the story behind the graph. If my students are able to do these things, this will help them be better prepared for life after high school no matter what field they pursue in life.
This is done through the use of a study. The research done monitored the mind-sets of several hundred students and the grades that they accomplished over time. Through this they realized that those who believed that intelligence is a skill individuals develop over time were the students who were improving in the class. To ensure that this was indeed the case they eliminated any doubt by teaching some students that intelligence is not static and proceeded to monitor their progress and discovered that their marks began to improve. This study examines the difference between using both mind-sets instead of just focusing on one and explaining why it does not work, therefore, developing the clarity needed to see the benefits of the growth mind-set. Moreover, this article not only mentions that the growth mind-set needs to be taught by teachers and learned by students, but it mentions a way in which this can easily done through the Brainology website. This is a great method especially with the increase of technology being used in the classroom. As it is has been stated, the strengths of this article are providing a study to prove the growth mind-set is beneficial and by providing means to implement the mind-set in the
At one time it was thought that after a certain age the brain stops growing but, “scientists have recently shown that adults can grow the parts of their brains that control their abilities, such as the ability to do math or even to juggle” (“You Can Grow”). There is no true plateau as Gawande once believed, new connections coming from the neurons which “allows people to think and solve problems” (“You Can Grow”). can be made even later in life. Good strategy and taking on new challenges that are difficult for the individual is the key (“You Can
Both were given a workshop with skills on how to study, but one was also given lessons on what a growth mindset was and how to develop one. The group given the lessons on growth mindset was extremely fascinated by the thought that they could control how much knowledge they were capable of learning. Overall, the growth mindset group excelled while the control group continued to not do so well. After receiving these results, Dweck was so inspired that she developed a growth mindset computer program called “Brainology,” that would be available to students all around the world. Dweck concluded that it’s extremely important to teach students that it takes hard work to achieve
Also, in Carol Dweck’s research article “Brainology”, she states the subtitle “Transforming Students’ Motivation to Learn”. She dishes mindsets and achievement, how do students learn these mindsets, and so on… … Dweck suggests, “Many students believe that intelligence is fixed, that each person has a certain amount, and that’s that. We call this a fixed mindset, and, as you will see, students with this mindset worry about how much of this fixed in intelligence they possess”. Many students believe that the challenge encountered in learning is a threat to their growth path. She put forward two different minds of the ideological study contrast, the finds showed that students studied with a growth mindset were more interested in learning and
Every parent desires to have a child who will be successful in life. In “Brainology” author, Carol Dweck explains that there are consequences for praising children for their work. Dweck also explains that there are different types of mindsets that enable an individual’s development. She claims that there are two types of mindsets that people have. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work ( Dweck 1). Furthermore growth mindset individuals love learning and are resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. (Dweck 1). One more theory, Dweck mentioned was fixed mindset. The author states “In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence
In the article “Brain Gain: The Underground World of “Neuroenhancing” Drugs” (Yorker 2009) Margaret Talbot discusses the misuse of prescription drugs that enhance academic performance at the college level. First Talbot introduces readers to a young college history major at Harvard University named Alex who receives a description of a demanding, busy life which seems impossible to control without the safety unapproved adopted use of a drug named Adderall. After that Alex’s dependency on the prescription drugs cognitive enhancers is described when he asks his doctor to increase the amount of intake and the listing of his daily routine on using Adderall during a week that required him to write four term papers. Next Talbot describes a personal
In our world, learning is more available to people. New knowledge is important for every person who like to gain information. This kind of people have their brain changing. The plasticity is responsible about that fact in the brain. The plasticity gives the brain the ability to grow up day after day. New language, dance and other activities help the brain to develop. Also, the plasticity had no limits according to time and age. We will discover the good effects of learning on brain plasticity.
brain is a very complex part of the body that has everything to do with daily life and the ability to learn. As many people do not understand there are two parts of the brain and each works completely different in how one will learn and retain information. Why is the brain such a complex system and has the ability to adapt to every situation. We are going to be looking at the Left and Right side of the Brain and how each hemisphere works from the time you are a child and starting to receive information and the brain as a whole. We will also be looking into the Right side of the brain and how it learns faster as the Left side retains information. There has been a lot of research and case studies on the brain and how different people from different back grounds learn based on ethnic groups such as the American Indians and how they learn different with their brain.
The question may be “is it true that adults can grow more parts to their brain?” Yes this is true. In the article “ You Can Grow Your Brain” states, “Adults can grow the parts of their brains that control their abilities.” An adult per say, has already pretty much grown their brain, but when learning something like, learning how to golfing, how to make something for dinner, how to become a better teacher, they have to practice what they need to know to do these things. Like a muscle, you have to build it up by working out, the brain is very similar, by building the brain muscle you are visually learning, physically learning, mentally learning how to do something that you have never done before or learning how to improve something you have already learned.
A growth mindset is the belief that you can learn anything you want without a limit. You will not give up and face any challenge in life until you overcome it. A fixed mindset is the belief that you can learn till you reach a certain point. Also, that you will not succeed in life and as soon as you come across a tough challenge you will let it bring you down and won’t ever get back up or face that challenge. Since reading “Brainology” by Carol Dweck, I discovered that I have a growth mindset and fragments of a fixed mindset my whole life.
How my brain grew? There is a lot of ways my brain grew but one situation that I learned new was when i was trying to learn how to play soccer. I kept on looking at other soccer players how they play and how they moved the ball but every time I tried doing what they were doing I found it very difficult to do, so I tried another method.
Brain Development is a nonstop development, we never stop learning so our brain isn’t going to just stop I mean well when it’s our time, but it won’t as long as you continue to learn and grow. The human brain begins to develop as early as three weeks after conception. But our brain development is a lifetime process. It doesn’t just stop developing at a certain age. There is a difference in brain development in children and adults the early life is impressionable then in the maturity aspect of life. This is a positive thing because as children they learn new thing they’re open to new and exciting things but then again it can be negative because children tend to be vulnerable to development problems. Our brain develops not only from nurture
The human body is divided into many different parts called organs. All of the parts are controlled by an organ called the brain, which is located in the head. The brain weighs about 2. 75 pounds, and has a whitish-pink appearance. The brain is made up of many cells, and is the control centre of the body. The brain flashes messages out to all the other parts of the body.
Throughout the course of history many people in time had no idea that many creatures of life had brains. With remarkable breakthroughs in technology and through human ability to take pictures of the human brain through head scans, scientists have discovered and mapped out the human brain. As neuroscientists understand how the brain works, discovery of brain-based learning has been a growing field ever since. Education is extremely important for human beings because the more educated we are as a society the better we contribute to society. Knowledge is extremely powerful and as a future educator, understanding how the brain works and developing lesson plans surrounding the inner workings of the brain will allow learning to manifest in the classroom.
