Girl Scouts And Boy Scouts

I. Introduction/Problem Statement
I want to determine what gender messages are portrayed in Girl Scouts vs. Boy Scouts. With both groups researchers have studied, the gender messaging that is portrayed in the scouting handbooks but they have not looked at what is actually being passed on to the girls and boys. I will take the proposed gender messages that have been defined in text analysis research and determine if those are the message being passed on to the scouts. These messages are that Girl Scouts are taught femininity, how to be homemakers and child caregivers but they should also be able to fend so to speak for themselves, at least a little bit and Boy Scouts are taught masculinity, responsibility and obedience. To do this I will test them in an observational setting and, to add to this I will compile a survey for the boys, their parents and for the girls and their parents/leaders to determine what they believe these organizations are teaching their children. In the research I found no one has gone and observed specifically Girls and Boys involved with scouting or their parents to research gender messaging, they have only analysis the handbooks I would like to find out if what’s portrayed in the handbooks is actually, what is being taught to the children. With this research, it can be determined why Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have success with empowering children and getting them ready for later in life. It may also help expand the views of scouting so that they can stop stereotypical gender messaging that are presented to the youth so that they can lead even more fulfilling lives in adulthood.
II. Literature Reviews
In my search for studies that focus on gender messaging in scouting I found many articles that looked at...
