I have decided to analyze the film Underworld: Awakening in terms of the three act structure and then compare it to two other films that we watched in class, namely: The Big Lebowski and American Gangster. This movie was the fourth in the Underworld sequel and was released on January 20th, 2012. It was among the first films to garner more $ 100 million in revenues during that year. It was also the most watched of the four films in the Underworld sequel. It fits well in the horror films genre, but may as well fit as an action and science fiction movie as well.
The film begins with a voice over narration by the main character, Selene. She recounts the events that have occurred in two of the three earlier films in the sequel. The setting at the beginning of the film is in the year 2015. The vampires and Lycans have been discovered to exist among the humans, and the humans are out to exterminate them (Underworld: Awakening, 2012). Selene talks about how so many of the people have been killed by humans using weapons that are fatal to the two supernatural creatures. The weapon against the vampires is ultraviolet light, while the Lycans are annihilated by silver.
Despite being a vampire, Selene is immune to UV light as a result of the gift of immortality received from Corvinus, the father of the immortal creatures. Michael, her lover, is also immune being a hybrid of the two creatures. Selene and Michael are about to escape from the humans that are hunting them only to be captured and getting cryogenically frozen. She remains in that state for twelve years in a laboratory facility named Antigen. The purpose of her retention there is to apparently create an antidote to counter vampires and Lycans viruses. ...gangster takes about double the screen time taken by Awakening. The heroine in Awakening carries the day, but fails to get her lover. This would be comparable to Lucas’ fall from grace and the desperate attempt to have his prison term reduced from 70 year to 15 (American Gangster, 2007). The most appealing aspect of Awakening is the special effects which appear so real and are very entertaining. The ability to intertwine a good story about a mother in search of her daughter and the dramatic fight scenes is simply extraordinary.

Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink have more in common than Molly Ringwald. Stereotypes, different economic backgrounds, and feminism all have some part in these 80’s teen films. The themes are all the same, rich vs poor, popular or unpopular and changing yourself to fit into the ‘norm’.

Death can occur in four ways. A person can die from a physical illness, viruses and infections. A person can die from an accident. A person can commit suicide. Finally a person can be murdered by another person. What if murders could be prevented? In P.K. Dick’s story The Minority Report, and in Spielberg’s film The Minority Report, the future can be altered by using incredible technology. The success of Spielberg’s adaptation of Dick’s short story to film can be determined by the way each was presented.
Film Noir is a genre of distinct and unique characteristics. Mostly prominent in the 40s and 50s, the genre rarely skewed from the skeletal plot to which all Film Noir pictures follow. The most famous of these films is The Big Sleep (1946) directed by Howard Hawks. This film is the go to when it comes to all the genre’s clichés. This formula for film is so well known and deeply understood that it is often a target for satire. This is what the Coen brothers did with 1998’s The Big Lebowski. This film follows to the T what Film Noir stands for.
In the road of life, the right path may not always be where the road signs lead. The road to self-discovery is found by following one’s heart and mind and to wherever they may lead them. Within the plays Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, and Our Town by Thornton Wilder, parallel pathways and contrary connections can be established between the characters coinciding in both. In Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman is the portrait of a sixty year old man reflecting upon his past, one of lies and hopelessness. Upon coming about his past, he finally and fatally, discovers himself at the end of his life. Mr. Webb from Our Town plays the figure of an editor of Grover’s Corner Sentinel and loving father of Emily. Early in the play, he displays knowledge over his own self-discovery, which he hopes to tell others. The self-discovered Mr. Webb raised Emily coherently as a woman who in the end recognized the value of life. Married to George Gibbs, her life was very much comparable to Linda Loman, married to Willy Loman. Linda Loman was a woman dedicated to the needs of her spouse, but also therefore blind to the real needs that Willy desired. In the end, she still was left wondering why or what had gone wrong. Interlocked by protruding parallel traits of progressive self-awareness, these characters promoted the two plays to a higher level of understanding.
In this essay, I have chose to talk about the movies, American Beauty and Thirteen from group #1. The two topics discussed in this essay from group #2 are identity and difference along with sexuality. The cinematic elements from group #3 that will be discussed are cinematography and costume use. In many ways, both these films portray similar content in terms of characters fighting battles with themselves and society in order to fit in. In American Beauty, Lester Burnham tries to free himself from his boring life and depression. On the other hand, Thirteen shows the struggles of Tracy Freeland, who tries to fit in at school. This results in her to go on a self-inflicting rampage with her supposedly best friend Evie. Identity and differences are displayed through sexuality with Lester and Evie in different types of way. Lester lusts over his daughters best friend Angela, while Tracy tries to experience sexuality in different types of ways following Evie’s footsteps.
Drugs, violence, and crime, the life of the stereotypical criminal black man. People’s perspectives on stereotypes like these can be influenced and changed. Bob Ewell, from To Kill A Mockingbird, greatly affects his community. Lyrics in mainstream hip-hop often seem to promote violence and crime, but often it is the artists’ mouthpiece to reveal how these stereotypes are still in place and have impact on the black community. In both hip-hop and To Kill A Mockingbird, we see how these characters with access to money and power have the ability to influence others’ views based on stereotypes. Those with access to traditional sources power can affect change in society.

Darabont, who not only directed Shawshank Redemption, but adapted it from a Stephen King story, followed the exact same path with The Green Mile. The film was released by Warner Bros. Anton Chekhov and Ernest Hemingway both convey their ideas of love in their respective stories The Lady with the Pet Dog and Hills like White Elephants in different ways. However, their ideas are quite varying, and may be interpreted differently by each individual reader. In their own, unique way, both Chekhov and Hemingway evince what is; and what is not love. Upon proper contemplation, one may observe that Hemingway, although not stating explicitly what love is; the genius found in his story is that he gives a very robust example of what may be mistaken as love, although not being true love. On the other hand, Chekhov exposes love as a frame of mind that may only be achieved upon making the acquaintance of the “right person,” and not as an ideal that one may palpate at one instance, and at the another instance one may cease to feel; upon simple and conscious command of the brain. I agree with Hemingway’s view on love because it goes straight to the point of revealing some misconceptions of love.

These words are from Chuck Palahniuk's novel Fight Club. Tyler Durden is the alter ego, and only known name of the fictional narrator of the novel. Tyler suffers from Dissociative Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Primary Insomnia, and probably a host of other disorders that I am not qualified to properly diagnose.
When a group of children known as the Little Rock Nine stepped onto the campus of Central High School of Arkansas on September 4th, 1957, they changed history forever. By being the first black students to attend a traditionally white high school, the nine students helped move America toward a more fair and constitutional attitude toward colored people. To Kill a Mockingbird was written during this time period and deals with many of the same cultural issues even though it’s story takes place a few decades earlier. If this were not the case and the novel’s characters had grown up during the same time as the Little Rock Nine, there is no doubt that Scout, Atticus, Bob Ewell, and many other characters would have had strong opinions about and may have even taken action for or against the Little Rock Nine or the Civil Rights movement as a whole.
It starts out with the main character Tina coming back to Crystal Lake which is the place of her father’s demise. Her psychic powers had been the reason for his death and she blamed herself for it as an adult. But later on her powers release Jason Voorhees from his watery grave. The reason this movie got rank number 3 on this list is due to the fact that they actually had a character that had a chance against Jason. As well as the scene where Kane Hodder (Jason) was set on fire for 45 seconds which made this film that used an uncontrolled fire for its

Almost everyone in America today has seen one of John Hughes’ iconic 1980’s teen movies. From Pretty in Pink, to Ferris Buellers Day Off, these iconic 80’s hits are still viewed as pop culture even two decades after their release. None of John Hughes movies has had as great an impact on society in America as The Breakfast Club. The 1980’s in America were filled with nuclear threats from the Cold War, President Reagan’s war on drugs and an increasing gap in wealth distribution. Even with America experiencing these heightened tensions, American teenagers were able to be more carefree, in a large part due to the draft being over, and worry about “teenage” problems. The Breakfast Club was able to capture this newfound freedom among teenagers as well as the feelings of anxiety, fear, and drama that came with high school. The film showed that one’s parents don’t determine your life, that breaking out of a label is possible, and that the emotions and issues that take place during this period of life aren’t any less important than the ones you face later on. The Breakfast Club by John Hughes was so impactful on 1980’s American culture because it gave hope for social class mobility, fought against the conservative politics of the era, and was one of the first movies to be shot from an accurate teenage perspective.
