We’ve all seen the ads. They’re on your TV, on your phone, and they’re all over the internet. The pushes that these two fantasy sports sites have made is astounding. They have both rocketed themselves into the fantasy game world where sports fans assemble lineups and try to compete for the jackpot. They are FanDuel and DraftKings. Together, FanDuel and DraftKings own 95% of the daily fantasy sports market. Over the last month or so, there has been a ton of bad news for fantasy sports companies, but, as of late there has been a huge problem for these two companies. After a month long investigation, DraftKings and FanDuel have been ruled to have violated the federal gambling laws. They have been accused of not only allowing gambling but, deceiving their users and misrepresenting their product. Ultimately, the dynasties of FanDuel and DraftKings must work together to prove their innocence.
Until fairly recently, fantasy sports was a season long game that you would play with a bunch of co-workers, friends and family members. Everyone would agree on some sort of wager and then everyone would play for that prize. However, daily fantasy is very different. In daily fantasy, you go online and usually pay an entry fee which is anywhere from twenty-five cents all the way up to thousands of dollars. Then, you pick a team for either a day or a week and compete against total strangers for whichever team succeeds the most. Some people wonder what the difference is between daily fantasy sports and normal sports betting. This summer, a study that took place discovered some astounding numbers. “91% of the profit was won by the top 1.3% of players. 85% of people who played, were losers” (Alba 2015). One player in the top 1.3% won over $200,000 last...

...some major problems involving the law and have been accused of violating the federal gambling laws. Everyone will have their opinion whether these companies are doing something legal or not but according to the law, they have technically not done anything wrong. The main problem that brought so much attention to these sites is the case that one of their own employees had won a huge amount of money for one of the contests. If this had not happened, all of this drama that is surrounding these two companies would have been minimal instead of the major problem that is taking place now which deals with all the accusations of violating the federal gambling laws. The New York Attorney General is attempting to shut down these companies inside the United States for being sources of gambling, but these companies will continue to declare themselves as sources of entertainment.
John Culhane reports that DraftKings employee Ethan Haskell has taken unfair advantage of the information he receives as an employee. As an employee of DraftKings, Haskell is justly forbidden from participating in DraftKings fantasy contests. However, there is nothing stopping him from entering contests in FanDuel, which functions under a system very similar to DraftKings. On September 27th, Haskell revealed that he had insider information, and that he was the “only one with this data.” With this data, Haskell outscored over 220,000 people in a contest that week and brought home $350,000. Culhane reports that many at DraftKings make more money on FanDuel contests than from their own salary. This is absolute corruption. Hundreds of thousands of people are losing their money to people who should not be allowed to participate in the contests. This calls for more regulation and the banning of employees from playing in their competitor’s contests. Many believe that those who work for one of the companies do not have an unfair unadvantage. Rather, they are just very knowledgeable in fantasy football and, after working with the game constantly, know the smartest way to play the game. This logic, however, is wrong. The evidence of Haskell beating out over 220,000 participants cannot be a coincidence. The corruption of FanDuel and DraftKings employees using insider information is one reason why daily fantasy sports need to be regulated; regulation will secure safety and fairness for all
It will not be easy for FanDuel. The company is still holding off on making an announcement since their license application is still in progress. Additionally, DraftKings managed to steal a march on them and is first on the market. It will be interesting to see how FanDuel will approach their market entry in the coming
Our conclusion is that while a rise in each stat had some affect in the rise or fall of winning percentage, we could not determine a single stat that had a direct affect on the dependent variable (Winning Percentage). Our results were more effective when we ran the test on how the combination of all stats affected winning percentage, however, this would be obvious given the nature of our study.
After a few days of smoke inhalation, large volumes of beverage consumption, and the proverbial and literal beatings you received from slots and poker tables, you begin to rethink your version of paradise. All hope is not lost, though; the NFL playoffs are on and your team is about to start. Hoping to salvage what little dignity and money you have left, you grab your favorite team's jersey and head to the casino's sports book. Back straight, chin up, you make your way to the counter and place a wager: "$300 on the Steelers, please."

Sports bring friends, family and our country together more so than political debates or even church on Sunday. Whether it be football, basketball, baseball or everything in between everyone has their favorite team that they cheer for regardless if they are the shits or number one. Americans will have gatherings of their friends every week of the season to watch games and “support” their teams from hundreds of miles away. Sports have an enormous impact on our society in every way shape and form, whether it is kids pretending to be their favorite super star while playing in the yard or it is co-workers participating in fantasy sports or making March Madness brackets, but which is the most entertaining, is it the professionals that are paid millions of dollars to play or college kids struggling to get by while trying to earn an education?
Intro: In 1946 two members of the New York Giants were found associating with gamblers, trying to fix the NFL Championship Game. These members were suspended and in 1947 the NFL introduced their form of prevention, the injury report (Merritt). Every week NFL coaches have to list their injured players on the NFL Injury Report. Each player has to be listed as either “doubtful,” “questionable,” or “probable” to play that weekend. What a lot of people don’t know is that an ample amount of teams are lying on these reports. By skewing the truth on their player’s injuries it gives that team an advantage. Whether the coaches are putting healthy players on the list, injured players not on the list, or just lying about the severity of the injury, it is all affecting the teams and the fans. I have addressed the problems with the NFL injury report and focused my research on the integrity of the teams and their purpose for lying, how much lying is really going on, and the link between the injury report, the NFL, and gambling.
Presently, America is experiencing a gambling boom. Everywhere you look there’s at least one advertisement involving gambling. Whether it’s a new Las Vegas hotel or a one-dollar scratcher, it seems to catch people’s eyes. Although it may look like a lot of glam and hype, there’s a dark side to the gambling industry, one people overlook the harsh consequences of.
What are the social and cultural costs and benefits of an individual (male or female) entering a non-traditional sport for their gender/sex (e.g. women enter body building, power lifting, boxing; men enter synchronized swimming or field hockey)?

I write to you today with concerns regarding a bill you sponsor, Senate Bill 5284. I have some misunderstandings regarding your bill. To the best of my knowledge, gambling on fantasy sports remains illegal in the state of Washington alongside five other states in the United States. Before I go further into my claim I would like to give my definition of gambling as well as my definition of fantasy sports. Gambling, in my opinion, consist of a game of chance. Fantasy sports are fictional teams assembled upon the better knowledge of the participant. The winner of the contest is then defined by the statistical performance of the participants' players. I am confident that we have similar definitions of those words, but our stance on the issue thus
...way anyone can lose if they use their service. It can be argued that adolescents are not being forced to bet, they are simply given the choice. On the contrary adolescents see it everywhere it is unavoidable and they are being misled and tempted from a young age resulting in them believing they have a high chance of winning and becoming wealthy. Adolescents are too young and inexperienced to realise the harm of gambling in any form.
Gambling involves taking a risk. It’s something that gets our adrenaline pumping. Believe it or not, money is one of the major things that makes the world go round and some of those believe that money does indeed buy happiness in our lives. We all have heard the stories of those who have won thousands to even millions of dollars just by gambling and we instantly think that could be us. If some random person can be that one in a million, surely I can be too, right? Even though gambling is a fun thing to do, it is important to be aware of the kinds of gamblers that exist in today’s society and realize that gambling should be played in moderation. For instance, some variations of players include: The Social Gambler, The Professional Gambler, and
The sports of today have changed the way the players play the game. Starting on the professional sports level, bad sportsmanship behaviors, like the use of steroids or "throwing" a game or a match in an effort to please the sports gambler trying to get their big pay-off, has trickled down through the college level and even down to the high school level. One person recalls the days when athletes played their sport for the love of the game, because it is what they lived for. They remember when they were younger, sitting in their grandfather's lap and watching the Atlanta Braves (in the days of Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Glenn Hubbard and other great names in Braves history) running out on the diamond every game. In fact, they quoted country artist, Collin Raye, saying [I've been] "a Braves fan even through the rotten years". Watching these games, they remember looking up at their grandfather’s face and seeing the look he had in his eyes by watching these guys play their sport from the heart. Now, years later, sports have been threatened by strikes. The athletes playing now aren't playing because they love to, but now it's more about the money and how much they can make. Sports of today are tainted and don't come from the heart. The kids today need to be taught what it was like "in the good ole' days" and how playing sports teaches an individual about how to work with other people and how to pull together as a family.
There are many different issues dealing with the legalization of online gambling. The current law dealing with online gambling is the Wire Transfer Act of 1961. Under this statute, the law is violated when telephone lines are used in interstate or foreign commerce to place wagers. The statute also bars the transmission of information that assists betters to gamble on sports events and contests. Recently, Congress have been active in seeking to pass further legislation to restrict betting on the web. Last November, the Senate proposed the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act. This statute would make it a crime to knowingly use the internet or other interactive computer services to place, receive, or otherwise make a bet or wager; or send, receive, or invite information assisting in the placing of a bet or wager. Penalties would be as high as $20,000 and 4 years in prison. However, in a vote in July, the bill narrowly missed obtaining the two thirds majority required to pass the bill. In May, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act was introduced. This statute would criminalize and prohibit any person engaged in a gambling business from knowingly accepting from another person who is involved in internet gambling a credit card or extension of credits, an electronic transfer of funds, or any instrument payable through a financial institution. This would shield certain financial institutions from liability as long as they do not know that their facilities are being used for online gambling. This bill has also not yet been passed.
