Recycling is one of the easiest and best ways for people to help the environment. More people need to recognize and take recycling seriously, because it can prolong the survival of humanity on Earth. The basic concept of recycling is the process of converting used materials or waste into reusable material for production. It is essential that people start realizing that recycling is necessary now, and going to be more necessary in the future because of the new, higher quality lifestyles people are living. With more people becoming wealthier, more products are being consumed, and as a result more waste is being produced. In addition, the world's increasing population also increases the number of products that could become potential waste (“Recycling is Important”). Both of these factors of a higher quality of life and increased population are continuing to contribute to the increasing amounts of waste being produced on Earth. This is important to understand because these factors are going to happen inevitably, which is why recycling will be an absolute necessity in the future. There are many benefits that come from recycling. It can range from helping the environment to preserving the planet's scarce resources. An interesting statistic about how recycling is beneficial to the environment is that “Recycled aluminum cans results in energy savings of 92%; recycled mixed plastic, 87%; recycled steel cans, 63%; recycled newspaper, 45%; and recycled glass, 34%” (Carper). If these five different materials can make this kind of positive impact on energy savings, then consider all the other kinds of recyclable materials that could have a better impact on the environment. Overall, in simpler terms the current situation is the problem of the people underestimating the power of recycling, along with the lack of awareness and reasons to take action to recycle. Therefore, this problem requires a variety of solutions to help bring more attention to the public of the many benefits that recycling offers, and the importance recycling serves to the environment and for their own personal incentives.
