Wellness is an important aspect of life and not all are aware of how to execute a well put together health plan that will benefit them in the future. It all starts today for the students at Rowan University. With better meal prep and education on the food you are eating, many lives will be positively impacted. Using the Precede-Proceed Model, the health at Rowan can potentially rise and cause other local schools to make a change based on our progress as a school. Of course I cannot force the students to follow our plan and make them eat the healthier choice, but I can give them better access to those choices. If the changes are exposed and if students are aware, it will influence them to make better choices. All the funding and the increase in population at the university will help for the necessary tools that are needed in order to make the change. The conferences will be beneficial to the average student or even making it mandatory for students to take a wellness class to help develop a better understanding of how to transition their lives. Implementing a healthier plan will make increase the health and student body as a whole. The “freshman 15” will decrease and the potential health for the students will be better in the long run. Giving every student at the university the opportunity to life a healthier lifestyle with support will help them. The process might be hard at first to gain enough support because I think I would even struggle at first but knowing the outcomes in the long-run seem more reasonable. Walk onto any college campus or any other type of school campus and you will see many students that are either obese or close to being obese. Did you ever imagine that what goes into your body might depend on something other than your choice? Currently at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the Daytona Beach campus, many types of campus issues exist. The mandatory meal plans for first-year students has become a very controversial issue. This controversy is caused by the mandatory purchase of at least 14 meals per week, amounting about $3,000. From my experience as a first-year student, I can say that I would save $1,000 an academic year eating the food and the quality I like if I was not required to buy meal plans. In this essay, I will argue that mandatory meal plans do not benefit first year students because of the cost, nutritional value, and dietary restrictions.

Active teens require 2000-5000 calories a day(Kids Health). The healthy choices may be available but, are kids really eating the food? According to the statistics on waste, the answer to this question is”No”. The Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act originated in 2010, new updated guidelines implemented in 2012 include the following: increase amounts of fruits and vegetables, calorie limits according to age group, reduction in fats and sodium. All schools were required to implement the changes in 2012-2013. One of the changes implemented because of the enormous amount of waste was “offer versus serve”. In the updated guidelines, this was another requirement. The term “offer versus serve” was coined to reduce waste: students can decline some of the food offered that they do not intend to eat (USDA Food and Nutrition Service n.p.). This confirms the fact that students were not eating the healthy choices that were being served. As a result the calorie intake for a student was now a health risk since they are not getting enough to support their growing bodies. Reflecting back on the all the information learned this semester, I am amazed at how much I learned. Working in healthcare makes you aware of a lot of the topics that were covered, however, when you apply it to yourself, in a personal relationship, it becomes much more powerful what the impact of each topic is.

I have very good communication skills with people. Anytime someone approaches me, I want to make them feel comfortable talking to me and carry on a conversation. I have many various friends that I have created meaningful bonds with. My roommate and a fellow teammate is from the same time as I am. Her and I were mere acquaintances back in high school. It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. Wellness is a lifelong promise to oneself of growth and achievement in each of the seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, occupational, intellectual, environmental, and social. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions both individually and collectively. Not living a healthy lifestyle, can have damaging effects on both health and life, and not only yours but the people that are around you. An unhealthy lifestyle means more illness and more expenses to treat those illnesses. This means a bigger burden on an already challenged and over-budgeted healthcare system. Poor health also means more time lost at work, less quality recreational time, and shorter lifespans. Not to mention, the onset of major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
