Volunteering at Sri Lanka Youth Organization (S.L.Y.O.) helped me realize there is some potential in me which has been going unutilized. Taking different responsibility out of the normal schedule creates a new experience, and it comes with benefits. At times you get once in a lifetime opportunities while other benefits can happen to anyone. Sri Lanka Youth Organization is a not for profit that focuses on helping the youth live a better life by empowering them with skills that help them be responsible citizens and responsible leaders. The organization organizes workshops for the youth where they get training and participate in community projects; learn about different cultures and fundamentals of living a balanced life. It is located in Los Angeles. I was able to establish new connections, advance my career, get fulfillment in my life and have fun. Volunteering at Sri Lanka Youth Organization improved my life as well as my attitude towards life. The first benefit was a connection. Through volunteering, I was able to meet new people. But when we shared our personal experiences with friends I met at the organization, I realized they were going out to party at night because their parents were absent and they were looking for company, and that would make them feel appreciated and have a sense of belonging. Those whose parents were absent said they would prefer being with their parents than going out to party. This experience taught me that human beings tend to complain about what we do not have instead of appreciating what we have and then wait for the right time to have what we do not have. Money cannot replace parent’s role and love. These children are given money but they are not shown how to spend responsibly, and as a result, it destroys their

N.p., n.d. Why this is important to encourage the children to doing helping activities which benefit him/her at school or to communicate better with parents, teachers and students. Why it matters that both parents can be involve doing helping activities with the children while learning. Here I prove to you why two parent household are better than one because children tend to learn more when both parents helping them doing activities. How children are better off in two parent household than one. “ In order to offer their children a decent standard of living, most families need two incomes.” ( Lerma Evelyn). "We Can Affect Their Future." Teen Moms: The Pain & The Promise (1997): 145. Points of View Reference Center. Meaning this is important for the family to bring in more money into the house for an emergency or save it. This matter to the children so they won’t have to wait on stuff and both parents provide a better living and place. “ For children to grow up with positive self-esteem, a loving and responsible father in the home is a tremendous asset.” ( Lerma Evelyn). ...ther materialistic indulgences. As children, we begin to grow accustomed to a certain lifestyle. The transition into adulthood can prove to be incredibly challenging if we have an unrealistic expectation of how our needs are met, due to the sense of entitlement our parents instilled. In contrast to the involved parent, the absent parent may neglect several, if not all, of their parental duties, being physically, emotionally and financially absent from their child’s life. This often bears resentment in the child that can transcend long into adulthood. As children, we blame our parents for our misfortunes; the absent parent is no exception. Rather than accept personal responsibility, many often use the absent parent as a scapegoat for not achieving one’s full potential. Whether present throughout our lives or not, Americans have deep rooted parental dependency issues.
...ittle could actually mean a lot to those who appreciate it. I also learned that doing something for others could be really fun. Volunteering with the VFW also increased my social skills. By working at the hamburger fest I got to work with other people and that increased my social skills. Doing voluntary work does not have to be boring. If you volunteer with friends or family it could not only benefit you by having fun with people you know, but it could also benefit others as well.
Moreover, a person can connect with people they may have not got the chance to. In particular, people who volunteer are more than likely to encounter areas of a society and career options they would have never thought of being available to them (Vale). Volunteering opens up different doors and opportunities that wouldn’t have been before. Continued, a volunteer can learn knowledge about different career paths and what they entail. For example, volunteers may experience and benefit from gaining knowledge on topics such as health, environment, and women’s issues (Sinha). A volunteer can gain experience of different types of jobs and learn more about different careers from first hand experience. Furthermore, a person met through volunteering may help you get a job in their field. For instance, when you volunteer with someone they get to know a lot about you and can serve as a reference of your character (Greene). Volunteering experiences help connect a person to others that can help connect you to different career paths. Volunteering is not only effective, but it's a good way to meet people and develop social
Every time I do some kind of service – I have the opportunity to learn new ideas, discover new perspectives and I've have grown as an individual. By giving back I like making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a good feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a difference. I grow as a person each time I do volunteering. Some people do volunteering because they have to, but I do it because I want to. I love volunteering.
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
As a child, one is unaware of reality and the world around him. As a parent, it is one’s responsibility to protect his or her child, and to raise them into being adults, equipped with everything he or she may need to survive in this world. With some help from officials in the school systems, the government-funded and community-funded organizations that have already been implemented, and some at-home teachings, the spoiled child, resulting in an irresponsible adult epidemic is one that can be avoided with ease. It is the sole responsibility of the parent to train up his or her child in a way that will allow him or her to become a good, strong, well-mannered adult. It has been said that charity starts at home, so does parenting, responsibility, and
People have many personal responsibilities such as house work, paying bills, and school to name a few. It is our responsibility as humans to clean our homes so they can be pleasant and welcoming for our visitors. That way, both our visitors and we can feel comfortable and enjoy some time together. Others use money as an incentive to help others take care of their responsibilities, which is not right because it takes away the purpose of being responsible. Paying bills is also a big responsibility that we should be aware of, which is something that we have to focus on every month to survive. School is another important responsibility that has to be done out of our own will. Several parents use money as an incentive so that th...
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
Their children may express gratitude to their parents for helping them so much. The author of “Yes: Don’t Have Your Children Start Life With Crippling Debt” said that, parents’ nest eggs, savings, for their children’s college education is a chance to discipline their ...
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
Through Sankalp, we provided employees a platform with multiple volunteering opportunities on various social issues. Many of these are in the cities easily accessible. We also encouraged employees to involve their families and thus started the self actualization process.”
