This is a problem because not only are we going to have more people losing their limbs, but this should be getting better due to new medicines and technologies. Loss of limbs often result in patients receiving a prosthesis, which is the topic of this essay. Prosthetics can be very confusing of how they work. First of all, what people need to know is the basic artificial limb replacement types. There is the transtibial, the prosthetic pertaining to the leg below the knee. The transfemoral prosthetic replaces any part of the leg from above the knee down.
