“4 out of 5 households contain at least one device used to play video games.” This was said by Colin Campbell, a journalist and writer that published a novel about the gaming industry. We always hear from parents and others that video games are a waste of time, or they kill brain cells, but what about the benefits of playing video games? Why aren’t people talking about the benefits of playing video games? Video games have benefits in multiple areas. A couple areas for example would be education or work related benefits. With the amount of people that play video games whether it’s for a living or if it is just once in a while that you play there’s benefits to playing. I personally see benefits from playing and I’m going to use a little personal experience into this paper as a first hand account. As kids we were always told that TV’s, computers, and video games kill our brain cells. That isn’t exactly the truth. Video games can be used as great educational tools. They help teach people basic skills needed in life such as language, math, and reading. When you play you follow directions the people in the game give you to achieve a task, sometimes you may even give the directions, these are just a couple of ways that benefit your learning skills. All together, many of the accusations like the one that video games kill our brain cells, are wrong. Video games do more than benefit a person, they can improve a persons life, whether in health or in a field of work. So back to the initial statement, “4 out of 5 households contain at least one device used to play video games.” This statement is good in the part that each of those consoles can be used to better a persons life no matter what they are doing with it whether it’s playing Wii Sports, Call of Duty, or Candy Crush
