Olympic Games were first held in 776 BC in Olympia in Greece (Finley and Pleket, 2012) and were dedicated for the Olympian gods, and through the years it evolved until it reached modern age Olympics as they are known today. In modern times Olympic Games are held once a four years. Olympic Games is a mega event where most countries of the world participate to battle for the Gold medals, during the 2012 Olympics in London over 10,000 athletes from 204 countries took part in the games (BBC, 2012). This article shows that Olympic Games are not only about sport. This paper examines three main reasons that cities are interested in hosting Olympic Games. Specially, it discusses the benefits which are associated with hosting the games.

The Olympic Games in Beijing were used as an opportunity for environmental and transport improvements (Owen, 2005). Air quality, cleaner water, removal of general wastes, introduction of more green energy sources and growing new plants in the city, are some of the factors that have been improved as a result of Olympic Games in Beijing (Owen). Transport was also developed. Introduction of busses that are run by clean energy were also incorporated to the city, public transport system was also enlarged making it more attractive for citizens (Owen). After the Olympics it was recorded that there is nearly 50% less harmful gases emitted from the vehicles (Zhou et al, 2010), this shows that people now more often pick public transport as source of travelling, this also means that there is reduction in traffic jams in the city and journeys from one place to another are faster and more pleasant. Such reduction is a huge achievement for Beijing, and it shows that it is possible to make the world cleaner and healthier to live in. One of the elements that Beijing incorporated is teaching English to taxi drivers (Owen), this is one of the key features which attract tourists as it makes it easy to communicate as English is one of the most widely spoken language in the
