Introduction
For most people owning a dog or just a pet is a vital part of their life. There are approximately 71 million households in America that have at least 1 pet. That is around 62% of America. Even though dogs can make great companions, they are also good for a other things like emotional and physical aspects (Casciotti). Some seeing eye dogs are even able to detect seizures or help with occupational therapy and speech therapy. Some studies show that people who own dogs have reduced stress levels, lower blood pressure, less of a chance for heart disease, and less of a chance for depression (Dotson). That alone could save a lot of money or lower costs on healthcare for some people. Also pet owners, specifically dog owners, get a lot of exercise while walking or playing with their dogs which again is very beneficial.

Although, owning an animal can come with many added benefits other than just having a cute and furry friend to play with. People who own pets, may see an increase in their overall quality of life compared to non-pet owners. Pets are a great way to improve the physical, social, and mental health of their owners.
Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based on love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns them, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. As one gets older being responsible comes in handy when applying to jobs, when attending school, and when having kids. Owing a dog teaches you to be responsible. They are taking care of another life and if they do not do those tasks then the dog does not live a happy life. It gives kids a longtime commitment and it teaches them how to be consistent.
