The United States is a Nation whose history is punctuated by conflict. It was born out of conflict in the American Revolution, expanded its borders through conflict, and continues to police conflicts throughout the world. Among all of these various conflicts, one in particular stands out in history as one of the greatest of all-time: World War II.
World War II was significant not only in its magnitude, but also in the great technological changes that had found their way into the battle space. One such technological innovation was the advanced role of Naval Carrier aviation. This gave Navies the ability to project airborne power anywhere on the globe, within a short amount of time. In early 1942, there were two people in particular who understood the advantages and dangers of Carrier aviation, as well as how to best utilize it. One was Admiral Chester Nimitz, the United States Navy’s Commander-in-Charge of the Pacific fleet. The other was Japanese Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku. (Symonds, Decision at Sea: Five Naval Battles That Shaped American History 5)
The centerpiece of the Japanese Navy was a group of ships known as the Kid¬o Butai. Kido Butai most literally translates to “mobile force,” but generally is understood to mean “attack force.” (Symonds, Pivotal Moments in American History: Battle of Midway 25) Normally comprised of six Aircraft Carriers, two Battleships, and several Cruisers and Destroyers, the Kido Butai was theoretically capable of putting approximately 412 aircraft airborne at any given time. (Symonds, Pivotal Moments in American History: Battle of Midway 25) During World War II, the Kido Butai roved the Pacific Ocean freely, conquering territories and defeating enemies. To the Japanese, as well as much ...

...u was abandoned, and the devastated remnants of the Kido Butai retreated to the west. (Symonds, Pivotal Moments in American History: Battle of Midway 338) All four of the Japanese Aircraft Carriers that had arrived at Midway had been destroyed. More importantly, the balance of power in the Pacific had radically shifted, and the Japanese Navy now knew that the United States Navy was a force to be reckoned with.

After a quick examination of the recurring theme of Japanese military arrogance, I will argue that the three most compelling strategies that the Japanese could have pursued in the spring of 1942 were, one – to consolidate the most important resource gains that were already made; two – commence immediate planning for a strong anti-submarine warfare campaign; and three – coordinate significant operations with Japan’s Axis partners, particularly in the Indian Ocean and Southwest Asia theaters of conflict.

Made famous by Theodore Roosevelt’s volunteer Rough Rider’s and the Buffalo Soldiers, the Battle of San Juan Hill (July 1, 1898), also known as The Battle of San Juan Heights, was the bloodiest battle of the Spanish American War. After landing on the beachhead, the US V Corps under the command of Major General William Shafter fought their way west toward the port town of Santiago. After an indecisive clash at Las Guasimas on June 24, Shafter readied his men to take the strategic heights around the city, while Cuban insurgents blocked any Spanish reinforcements arriving on the roads to the north, in what would be one of the most decisive battles of America’s “Splendid Little War.” 1
...hought it was interesting learning the various ways people had fought out in the sea, including the ways the young officers would eventually end up becoming the only Five-Star Fleet Admirals. In the book The Admirals the officers (Nimetz, King, Halsey, Leahy) prove that men should not be ranked on their skills or technology alone, but on both areas in a synchronized manner to overcome obstacles and rise above all other elements that stand in the way. The ships that the men grew fond of had become an inspiration to keep moving forward and succeed when it came to the battlefield. This thought would later become the thought that America has adopted to move forward when it comes to technology and build upon what has been learned. Anything from the structure of sea vessels to the artillery it carried did not only aid in war, but it aided in a country that could progress.
World War II was a war that proved to the world the awesome power of the United States. Many events led up to the U.S. involvement in the war, topped off by the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor. Many great people contributed to leading the United State to victory in the war. They include General Douglas MacArthur, General Dwight Eisenhower, and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. World War II also consisted of many major events including Operation Overlord and the U.S. bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Overall the United States played a major role in World War II and displayed their power through strong generals and their initiative and strong leadership in major events.
The American home front during World War II is recalled warmly in popular memory and cultural myth as a time of unprecedented national unity, years in which Americans stuck together in common cause. World War II brought many new ideas and changes to American life. Even though World War II brought no physical destruction to the United States mainland, it did affect American society. Every aspect of American life was altered by U.S. involvement in the war including demographics, the labor force, economics and cultural trends.

World War II, also known as the Second World War was fought by Japan, Germany and Italy, also referred to as the Axis powers; that went against the Allies that consisted of the United States, the Soviet Union, and Britain with help from others. 60 to 80 billion deaths were the result of World War II ("Reasons for American Entry Into WWII"). Initially the United States did not want to interfere with a war going on in a different continent. At the start of the war America began a state of isolationism which kept America away from the war; until its “breaking point”. America’s deviation from isolationism in World War II is what establishes them as a powerhouse country economically an. Also, how America’s growth industrially lead to a post-war boom.

World War II changed the world as a whole, but in this essay I am going to talk about how it changed America. After the war, many groups and organizations were created. The United Nations was born on October 24, 1945. This was a group meant to keep peace between nations. Tensions were still high between the United States and the Soviet Union after the war. Nevertheless, things were booming like never before here in our home country. With equal rights for women and African Americans, economic growth, and anti- war organizations became pro- war after Pearl Harbor. These are the ways I am going to discuss to you how World War Two changed our great country.
