But the computer that everyone thinks of first is typically the personal computer, or PC.A PC is a general-purpose tool built around a microprocessor. It has lots of different parts - memory, a hard disk, a modem, etc. - that work together. "General purpose" means that you can do many different things with a PC. You can use it to type documents, send e-mail, browse the Web and play games.
The main purpose of the operating system is to allow the application software to interact with the computer hardware. An operating system is the program that, after being initially loaded into the computer by a boot program, manages all the other programs in a computer. The operating system is usually stored on the computer’s hard disk drive. Part it will also be in ROM. Applications software- A group of applications programs that is designed to perform specific tasks such as database management, spreadsheet, word processing, attendance, accounting, grade reporting, scheduling, and others.
Introduction A computer is an electronic machine which can accept data in a certain form, process it, and give the results of the processing in a specified format as information. First, data is fed into the computer’s memory. Then, the computer performs a set of instructions and processes the data. Computers are used for business, bar codes, track inventories, home use, school work, and studies among other things. Computers can produce several things at once, for example: information, images, numbers, movies and sound. This is why every part of a computer is important when it comes to managing the system. The operation system is responsible for allocation of resources. It calls programs that can handle the resources like a scheduler, module for memory management, input/ output and file system. An operating system has many tasks to take care of. These include having an editor where the programs can be created and modified. It uses a compiler to translate the high level program to machine language.
It is the main part of a desktop computer. It also includes the motherboard, CPU, RAM and other components. If you were to ever open your computer the biggest piece of silicon you see would be the motherboard. Each motherboard has a collection of chips and controllers known as chipsets.
