The Baptist faith believes in the precepts of Trinity, Heaven, and Hell. Surprisingly Mary does not have a special place in the Baptist religion. They don’t teach the assumption of Mary because Mary is seen as just Jesus’ mother. As for the belief in Saints, they really don’t designate saints because they believe that we all have been saved and we are all God’s messengers. Unlike Christianity, Baptists don’t have bishops or Cardinals. The Baptist religion has a much more loose structure than the Catholic faith.
There are also five pillars of understanding in the Baptist religion. These five pillars are tracing the history of God, the belief in the never ending kingdom of God, the gospels of Matthew and Mark, the revelation of Paul’s gospel, and the gospels of Luke and John. They also believe that held four titles. Son of Man, Son of God, Son of Abraham, and Son of David.
I asked Byron what a person in the Baptist faith must do to make their journey to heaven. He responded by saying “Confess with your mouth, believe in your heart that Jesus died for you, and show love and compassion.” Also one must be baptized and receive communion. Byron added, “We are born sinners and are saved by God.”
The Sacraments that they have are Fruit of the Vine and Bread, which are grape juice and ceremonial bread. In the Baptist religion they have interfaith communion, where anyone can receive it. To the Baptists the sacrament of communion is more symbolic than what Catholics believe it to be. I found it interesting marriage and confession are not sacraments in there faith.
The Baptists don’t have a set version of the bible, but usually they use the King James or the New King James version. Sometimes they do use the Catholic bible.
The format of a Baptist Sunday service consists of the choir, devotion (psalms, scripture, message, prayer, song), responsive readings, congregational prayer, choir, sermon, and invitation to join the church, offering, and then special announcements. Each month a different part of the church is in charge of the prayer service.
They receive communion by the Priest and Eucharistic ministers taking it down to the isles and distributing it. Communion is distributed to “everyone who is saved.” As stated before the body and blood of Christ is very symbolic to the Baptists.
In order to become a Minister in the Baptist church you must go through meetings with the Pastor.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. According to the Oxford dictionary, the term abortion can be defined as, the deliberate termination of human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. There are two different types of abortion; a spontaneous abortion, which is also known as a miscarriage, and an induced abortion, where the embryo or fetus is purposely removed from the women’s body. The topic of induced abortion has been widely debated for hundreds of years. The issue of abortion was argued way back in the time of the ancient Hebrews. Today many people consider abortion to be murder, but shouldn’t the soon-to-be mother 's right to make such a personal and heartbreaking choice be
It seems apparent that Orthodox Judaism and Southern Baptist would have multiple differences that could easily be picked out at first glance. But when looked at closely these religions have many characteristics in common. Some characteristics these religions have in common are that they are monotheistic and they believe in the same God. Some differences are that they celebrate different holidays and people that follow Orthodox Judaism have limitations on what they can eat. Orthodox Judaism and Southern Baptist will be summarized, then compared and contrasted.
Communion This sacrament is also known as Eucharist, Last supper, and the Lord’s Supper. Again communion is an action consider as sacrament because Jesus taught his disciple to do it, and one read it in the Bible for instances in the Gospel of Matthew 26:26-28, Mark, 14:22-24, Luke 29: 19-20 and the Epistle of 1 Corinthians 11:24-26. Going to the point, “Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19), “…this cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood,” (Luke 22:20). “...He broke [bread] and said, ‘This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’” (1 Cor. 11:24), “…this
According to a Gallup poll (77 percent) of people are Christians in America. The Islamic mythologies follows in ranking the second largest practiced religion in the world. Christianity, is the highest estimated practiced religion in the world. Despite the Christianity mythology and their beliefs, it is apparent that they have geared away from the practices from the twenty-first century. Christians do however, continually participate in Holy Communions, believe in the covenant God made with the rainbow, and consider the cross to still be holy. These are all image archetypes that are intertwined into the Christian mythology and faith. Some of the archetypes share relationships because you are not supposed to participate in Holy Communion if you have not been baptized. This is not a set in stone rule, but some Baptist churches do require believers to undergo a baptism before being served communion. The population for Christianity is large, but the worship services are not the same. Baptist churches are more reserved and
Giving birth is often looked upon as a miracle of life with remarkable experiences to come. However, others may think this miracle of life will be nothing but problems in their lives. Many females who are not ready for a baby seek abortion as the answer of their problems. Abortion is known to be one of the most debated issues in society. It is best defined as a “medical procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause the death of the fetus” (“Merriam-Webster 's Learner 's Dictionary”). Regardless, if a woman becomes unexpectedly pregnant and is not mentally or financially stable to take care of a baby, abortion is still not the answer. The procedures for abortion is unhealthy for the female, is murder of the fetus, and goes against the 14th Amendment.
Women would often die days later after having an abortion done at a clinic due to improper procedures performed in the abortion process ( Agresti, N.P). In a clinic abortion, the most common type of abortion performed during the first trimester of the pregnancy is called an “aspiration abortion” (In-Clinic Abortion Procedures at a Glance, N.P). During this procedure, the fetus’s heart needs to stop and would be done by an injection. Afterwards, the fetus is removed through the cervix with a vacuum and the rest is scraped with a curette. This can be unruly to witness as the tissues are discarded afterwards. In addition to aborting the child, the woman would have feelings of regret and they have the tendency to commit suicide more than a woman if she was suffering from post-mortem depression. The court case of “Roe vs Wade” legalizes abortion allowing more rights for the women but pro-life supporters argue that it counters the argument that all living things have their natural right protected. This right does not extend to the fetus and that is what pro-life supporters want to change. Abortion should not be legal as it violates the natural right of the unborn, can be considered murder and meddles with the morals and values of
A woman has the right to consider many options of dealing with unplanned pregnancies that may be a final burden they don’t want to take on during a time of hardship. Many women and young teens get pregnant at a time in their lives when they are still maturing and would rather terminate a pregnancy because they feel they are not ready for the added responsibility that a baby brings and want to continue getting an education with ease instead of the stresses of having to juggling on to many responsibilities all at once. “Being a single parent may interrupt careers and the ability to earn wages if complication occurs to take care of the household bills.” (Lowen, 2014). Because we live in a society that judges and places status on people some young mothers avoid becoming young single mothers of not having to deal with parental disapproval. “Lately abortions have been on the decline since the introduction of long-term contraceptives like intrauterine devices and may be also the recent recession and the economy's unpredictability.” (Eckholm, 2014). Thanks to adoption agencies instead of aborting...
It is clear that every woman has the right to make their own decisions no matter of the situation they may be in. The decision the woman makes should never have to be compared or even justified against what other people think due to the fact the woman will be the one bearing the child and going through the whole nine month process. What would you do in a situation where you were just too young to give birth to a child? What would you do if you were not in a financially stable environment? Why would you bring an unwanted human being to life, costing hatred, frustration and agony towards a baby that does not deserve it? Is this what society really wants thousands of neglected children around the world?
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptiz- ing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” ( Matt. 28:19-20 NIV ). The idea of sharing in the death of Christ connects remission of sins with baptism which the death of Christ effected. ( Act 2:38; 1 Pet. 3:21). Just as physical washing cleanses our bodies from filthiness, so also baptism symbolically cleanses our spirits through participation in the death of Christ. “For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink (I Cor. 12:13 NIV). In addition, baptism connects with spiritual birth along with the Spirit’s reception. Hence, participation in Christ’s resurrection indicates that the Holy Spirit is presently in our lives. Baptism is an indication of the relationship we have with Christ and wherever we find ourselves in the world, our deportment, attitude and disposition should be in alignment with our confession of faith. Jesus’ baptism should help us realize how much we are loved by God. Jesus died to pay a debt he did not owe to release from a debt we could not pay. Baptism is a two-fold operation because we are symbolically
Do you know what an abortion is? In the United States, it 's one of the controversial and most debated topic. According to the Guttmacher Institute,22 percent of all pregnancies, excluding miscarriages, end in abortion. Abortion is when a woman chooses or is forced to abort the fetus inside her body. Do you think that a fetus have right to be in the body of a women against the will of the woman? Or does a woman have the choice to abort the fetus, because it 's her body? The answer is often determined by an individual 's personal beliefs about religion, ethics, personal freedom, and other issues.
I find most interesting that the Baptist denomination tends to be very traditional, but slowly they are becoming less strict in their ways. They are not part of a large organization; each church is free to choose their own type of worship and who is allowed to be part of the staff. Their views on the Bible are straight forward, believing that the Bible is the word of God, by God and it should be treated as such. Baptists use the Bible as a guide of how to live ones life and what their stance should be on controversial issues. In their beginnings, the Baptists were a small denomination, but through evangelism they have grown into one of the largest denominations in the United States.
I would argue that giving birth isn 't always the most responsible option. If a woman knows that she won 't be able to effectively take care of the child I’d say it’s more responsible of her to have an abortion and prevent them both from having a future full of hardships. People also say that if a woman had practiced safe sex and used contraception than she could have avoided it all together. According to Newsweek, a report released by the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that, “fewer than half of high schools and only a fifth of middle schools teach lessons on all 16 of the nationally recommended topics for sexual health education.” They also found that, “schools were least likely to teach kids how to obtain or use condoms.” This shows that not everyone is informed on how to obtain or correctly use contraceptives, so avoiding a pregnancy might not always be an
The greatest revealed mystery of the Christian faith is the Trinity; it is the central mystery of the Christian faith and of Christian life. God alone makes it known to us by revealing himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As Roman Catholics, we “worship one God in the Trinity and the Trinity in unity, without either confusing the persons or dividing the substance; for the person of the Father is one, the Son's is another, the Holy Spirit's another; but the Godhead of the Father, Son and Holy Spir...
Baptism, according to Webster’s Dictionary, is defined as a ceremonial immersion, in water, or application of water, as an initiatory rite or sacrament of the Christian church. This act of corroboration is a traditional venture for Christians to publicly make a stand for Jesus. Though it is has taken on different modes, forms, customs, and practices throughout history and practiced differently in various denominations; the Southern Baptist Church view of baptism is the correct and most accurate way according to scriptures found in the New Testament. The scriptures found in Mark 1, Matthew 16, Acts 2, and John 3 illustrate baptism to be a holy display of salvation to show the repentance, confession, and establishment in faith with Jesus Christ (Holy Bible NKJV). This illustration according to Jesus and John the Baptist show and hold the true way of baptism. In order for one to perform a correct baptism, they must contrive the Southern Baptist
Religion is commonly defined as a group of beliefs concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions and rituals associated with such beliefs (Wikipedia, 2006). Most of the major religions have evolved over the centuries into what they are today. In many cultures and times, religion has been the basic foundation of life, permeating all aspects of human existence (Fisher, 2002). Religion is passed on from generation to generation. My religious beliefs were passed on from my relatives on my mother's side. My family has believed in the Catholic faith for many generations. Since I grew up in the Catholic faith I went to Catholic schools my entire childhood. My personal experiences and the Catholic faith made me into the person I am today. Without a religious upbringing I feel that there would have been something missing in my life.
