Henry Ford George Mancini Social Studies Henry Ford Henry Ford was one of the most famous people in the world. He revolutionized assembly line modes for the automobile, which revolutionized the auto industry for America. He invented the Ford model T car, in 1908, which was his first car he invented. Because of this reason, Ford sold and continues to sell millions of automobiles and became head of a world renowned and innovative auto company. His company didn't really dominate the foreign market, but it made a huge impact in technology and the development of the U.S infrastructure.
"With fifty-thousand dollars in capitalization, these supporters set up the Henry Ford Company. But Ford could not set his mind to designing and building the low-cost cars in which he claimed he was interested (Taub 18)." By 1903, Ford designed another car, the Model A. This came with a two-cylinderengine developing eight horse power, capable speeds up to thirty miles per hour. H... ... middle of paper ... ...ster.
The beginning of hybrid cars goes back to the 20th century. The Paris Exposition of 1900 included the Lohner-Porsche Elektromobil which is the first ever hybrid car. The inventor of the Lohner-Porsche Elektromobil was a 23 year old engineer named Ferdinand Porsche. Porsche is known today for his Volkswagen cars and for the famous sport cars designed by his son. He created a vehicle that could travel 38 miles on electricity alone.
The same situation occurred in Europe and Japan. The first automobile produced for the masses in the US was the three-horsepower, curved-dash Oldsmobile; 425 of them were sold in 1901 and 5,000 in 1904--this model is still prized by collectors. The firm prospered, and it was noted by others, and, from 1904 to 1908, 241 automobile-manufacturing firms went into business in the United States. One of these was the Ford Motor Company which was organized in June 1903, and sold its first car on the following July 23. The company had become an industry leader in manufacturing horse-drawn carriages in Flint Michigan before going into the automobile industry. At the time they only owned Buick Motor Company. Now they own the following automobile manufacturers: GMC, Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Saturn, Cadillac, Hummer, Oldsmobile and many more. (2) Chevy was founded on November 3, 1911 by Louis Chevrolet as well as William Durant.
When Ford Motors first started it was only one of fifteen car manufacturers in Detroit and one of eighty-eight in the United States. During Fords first months in existence Ford Motor Company began to make a profit selling the Model A and Henry Ford knew that the automobile industry was going to work. Since it’s beginning in 1903 Ford Motors has always strived to make cars affordable and easy to buy for everybody. Ford has a long history of having good cars at a great price and offers more classes of models so that everybody can have the car of their dreams. Ford Motors first car was the Model A, which started production at a rented plant in Michigan.
As men returned from war, the new and hot item to own was a car. Ford and GM’s Chevy became the biggest automobile manufacturers. In fact, by 1923, Ford Model T’s accounted for just under 52% of automobiles in the market while Ford held over 62% of the market. The production of Ford automobiles had reached nearly 2 million. In 1924, you could buy a Model T for $290 dollars.
In 1903 Ford launched his own car company, The Ford Motor Car Company, and by January 1904 he had sold 658 vehicles. By 1908 he built the famous Model T, a car that was affordable to the middle class. The automobile was no longer the toy of the rich. Ford was able to make a reliable and inexpensive automobile primarily because of his introduction of the innovative moving assembly line into the process of industrial manufacturing. The assembly line is a system for carrying an item that is being manufactured past a series of stationary workers who each assemble a particular portion of the finished product.
