Introduction Wars can be very chaotic. If you have lived in a turbulent context, or through a situation of armed conflict, then you will know that sometimes it is hard to make sense of what is going on. In this lesson we are going to learn some tools for analyzing the conflict scenario, to help make sense of what is happening. There are many tools that we could use, and some are quite technical. However, we will start with tools which are simple to use, but very helpful in understanding the armed conflict. Warm Up Activity: Group Discussion Ask trainees to consider and share their responses to this question: “Why should we analyze the conflict scenario?” Some possible reasons are to discover the following: • how did this conflict arise? …what is the history behind it? • who are the different groups involved, major and minor players? …what are their perspectives? …how do they relate to each other? • what are some of the key factors in the conflict? …are they political, social, economic, cultural, etc.? …and how do these factors interrelate? Gene was jealous of Finny’s talent in athletics, and Finny was envious of Gene’s talent in school. The break was bad, but it was not until Finny fell down the stairs and broke his leg again, that he had to have surgery. The surgery that Finny would undergo would cause more complications and heartbreaking news for Gene. During the surgery Finny would lose his life due to some bone marrow that escaped into his blood stream and stopped his heart from beating. “As I was moving the bone some of the marrow must have escaped into his blood stream and gone directly to his heart and stopped it” (Knowles 193). Although people do not normally think about bone marrow as being a huge part of the human body, it can cause some major issues if it has to be replaced or escapes into the blood stream.
