First I would like to include some information about our american flag and how it came about. In the British colonies of North America before the Revolution, each of the 13 colonies had its flag. On Jan. 2, 1776, the first flag of the United States was raised at Cambridge, Mass., by George Washington. Known as the Grand Union flag, it consisted of 13 stripes, alternate red and white, with a blue canton bearing the crosses of St. George and St. Andrew. Congress, on June 14, 1777, enacted a resolution “that the Flag of the United States be 13 stripes alternate red and white, that the Union be 13 stars white in a blue field representing a new constellation.” On Jan. 13, 1794, Vermont and Kentucky having been admitted to the Union, Congress added a stripe and a star for each state. It is not all right to protect those who let it burn, lighting up the sky with their hatred. It definitely is not acceptable to insult the men and women who fight every day to protect this nation by burning the symbol of their labors. Abortion is a procedure carried out to terminate a pregnancy. In 1967, liberal Member of Parliament David Steel introduced the Abortion Act. This legally permitted abortion to be carried out by a medical practitioner in England, Scotland and Wales (Glennerster 2000). Since the implementation of this policy, numbers of abortion have gradually increased. In 2010 almost two hundred thousand procedures were carried out in England and Wales, ninety-six per cent of which were funded by the National Health Service (Department of Health 2011). To access the strengths and weaknesses of abortion regulation a number of areas must be considered. Following a brief section about the background and development of abortion policy, the legal requirement of two doctor consent will be discussed. Repercussions of this legality will be used to justify why the requirement is considered an outdated obligation that weakens abortion regulation. The extent of abortion provision will then be argued as a weakness by sending a troubling message to society. This will interconnect with the need for restrictions in abortion provision, a concept supported by the further discussion of related health risks. Counterarguments will then consider the procedure step by step and suggest that regulations enable a process efficient and suitable for both the hospital and patient. Finally, medicalisation will be discussed as the most prominent strength of the British approach to abortion in regards to safety.

Maternal-fetal issues spark complex and controversial debates in the field of biomedical ethics (Farber-Post, 1996). The conflicts arise when medical professionals try to determine to whom their ethical obligations are owed. Many ethicists argue that autonomy is precedential and, therefore, the duty of the medical staff is to the pregnant woman because it is her body, and she has a right to make decisions regarding her healthcare. Others argue that equally important ethical principles such as beneficence, nonmaleficence, and avoiding killing override the principle of autonomy, and therefore, these principles that govern actions towards the fetus, in particular the fetus’ right to life, demand that medical professionals override the mothers’ desires at times.
I think this because we do not know what death really is. We do not know what will happen when we die. It could be good or it could be bad, but Socrates believes that we should not fear things that we do not know about. We should only fear things that we know are bad and want the things that we know are good. When we do this with death, it is clear that we do not know about it and should not fear it. This allows us to think that there might be something after death and if we have lived a good life, we will be able to have a better life after death. This is not true of wickedness though. Socrates would say that wickedness is bad and therefore, we should avoid it at all costs. Since his accusers sentenced him to death when he was telling the truth, they are wicked. When someone is wicked, they are bad and should be avoided. When they die, they would not have a good place to go after death while Socrates would have a good place to go. Socrates is not a person who live an immoral life, but rather, his accusers are the one’s who live immoral lives. The person who speaks the truth and lives a just life is someone we should strive to be rather than someone who tries to get off an accusation by going off from the investigation or lying. What Socrates is trying to point out here is that we should not be afraid to die if we are moral people. If we have wisdom, we are able to live a just life and should not fear when we die. Also, Socrates would say that it is harder to escape death than wickedness. This is by prolonging our time here on earth in the physical sense, but Socrates would argue that our soul would continue on and would never die. If we are moral and wise, we would have a soul that could live on that way forever. If we are wicked, we would have a soul that would continue that way even after
