I personally did not enjoy the Grapes of Wrath as much as I did the Jungle. I did find it to show the hard times the farmers of the Depression era had. The characters in this book I did enjoy though the fact that Tom just released from prison that to me was a great way to start a book. It keeps my intention till he got evolved into the union business. I lost interest at this point the author did not effectively portray this I thought. The recurring theme of a better life or the American Dream can be seen throughout the three stories I have read about the Depression. It can be seen in this book as the Joad family leaves their country home to better opportunity west. Then, in the end, they don't succeed in beating the system. This can be seen
