Many turn to faith in times of doubt or hardship. There are times where an individual’s faith may grow through hardship while others get upset with God and curse him. Most often, people forget to thank God for all the good in their lives. The film Bruce Almighty is a wonderful didactic depiction of God’s involvement in people’s lives. There is a cross between fantasy and realism that vividly show the up’s and down’s of faith through the constant roller coaster of life along with the difficulties and daily experiences that society believes to be associated with being God. Most importantly, the film was designed to show how God is active in each and every person’s life every single day.
Bruce Almighty is a fictional story about a man named Bruce Nolan, played by Jim Carrey, who is begins the movie as a reporter for a local news station. When he does not receive the promotion he desires to anchorman, he blames God for all the negative things happening in his life. He is upset with God and claims that he is actually the Devil. Morgan Freeman, who is the actor playing the human version of God, calls Carrey to come to meet him and give him the power of being God for a week. Carrey does not understand at first, but over time sees the hardship and responsibility Freeman endures each day. By the end of the film, Carrey fully appreciates everything Freeman does for him and has full faith in God again.
One of the main Christian ideas in the film is that there is the traditional idea of God, an “all powerful” being. We believe that through praying to God, usually at night, all of our wishes and “prayers” will be answered. Bade and Cook were referring to prayer associated with coping in situations of health, but the article disp...

...esent in every part of life. God influences the good and bad in your life. This film shows a good perspective of how things that appear bad at one time can be good if you change your perspective and how you view the situation.

Grandpa turns to God whenever he needs true help. Grandpa is a type of person who is mild, witty, and very religious. Grandpa uses religion to solve many of his problems. At the beginning of the story, Miss Love was the target of gossip. The whole entire town viewed her as an outsider and couldn’t understand why she married Grandpa, especially after his wife recently died. After Grandpa elopes, he comes back to the house and finds a group of people mourning the sad death. He introduces his new bride and then out of no where, Grandpa says, “Lord above, afore this gatherin’ assembled, I ask You to bless the memory of Miss Mattie Lou” (Page 99). Everyone stood in silence as Grandpa continued the prayer. Then all of the sudden, people also began to pray along with Grandpa. This is amazing. Grandpa used the power of God to divert the feelings of the crowd. It is very sly of Grandpa to do that. Later on, Will is talking to Grandpa about his frightening encounter with the train. Will asks Grandpa if “[he is] alive [because] of God’s will” (Page 97). Obviously, Grandpa responds with wise words. He tells Will that “God gave [him] a brain” (Page 97). This shows that Grandpa believes God doesn’t do everything. He believes God only does major things. He isn’t there twenty four hours a day but God gives one certain abilities which help at all times. Furthermore, Grandpa starts to give Will a sermon. Grandpa tells him that “[One] don’t git thangs jest by astin’” (Page 98). This shows that Grandpa is an well-educated man who understands the importance of God. He doesn’t even waste his time asking for petty little things because he knows that God would not listen.
If God is powerful and loving the humankind, then why does He permit evil as well as suffering in this world? Various answers had been offered by many Christian philosophers and many victims of suffering, but there was not a lucid answer that could settle this argument permanently. God uses malicious acts of this world to rise up His own people and remind them that there is an opportunity that they can posses their eternal life. Literature, especially biblical literature has exploited this biblical nature to its fullest in various types of forms, including the play J.B. by Archibald MacLeish. In the play J.B, Archibald MacLeish reanimates and modernizes elements taken from the story of Job to come up with his own response to the ultimate question which has been asked by countless generations, “Why do the righteous suffer?” Throughout the play, Archibald MacLeish delineates the sudden corruption of J.B and his family, his calmness despite the helpless pieces of advice from the Three Comforters, and his unusual ending in order for God to test if one’s will and faith are strong enough to rebuild oneself after an irrational decadence.
Throughout the movie the director breaks down the message in clever ways and makes the message very precise and clear. In the movie the director was attempting to teach the viewers a life lesson. In order to have peace of mind and continue to actually “live” it is important that you don’t hold grudges, believe, have faith, and no matter the situation don’t ignore signs due to your stubbornness or convincing yourself otherwise when you know the truth.
There are many more examples throughout this movie that can be connected or assessed to the many different concepts that was learned. There are many real-life events and these concepts are important because they allow people to see how different types of people and families deal with stress and problems and it is important not to judge or jump to conclusions and maybe take a step back and take time to consider what others may be going
This movie was inspiring and encouraging to anyone who is struggling with something. Overcoming his controversies in life became the main point of the movie. Knowing that this movie was based upon a true story inspires the people even more.
The movie teaches us to look beyond the cover and into who someone is as a person. We also learn that sometimes contact with people makes us reconsider our judgement towards them, to find out the real person underneath.
Weirob does not believe in God, so she does not admit Miller to pray for her. First, Weirob claims, "how in the world does a prayer help?" (p.2) to raise the debate of good, evil and the existence of God. She thinks Miller simply would be communication to his omniscient God for what God already knows, thereby wasting God's time and his ...
God is always watching. This is what the first couple of scenes in Woody Allen’s movie Crimes and Misdemeanors would seem to imply but as the movie continues its message about god and a just universe flips back and forth as events go unpunished or the good go unrewarded. God and who god is are the main themes of this movie and as the movie progresses each character shapes his beliefs of god on what happens as they live their life. A main character, Judah, an ophthalmologist
Many books and movies have strived to capture the teachings of the Bible, and one book by WM. Paul Young titled The Shack, tries to confront the dramatic scenario of finding and understanding God’s reasons for not stopping horrifying incandesces from happening. The book as a whole is heartwarming and does highlight some things that people may forget about God. However, some parts of the book can be debated as to whether or not that is God’s true intentions over the Ten Commandments, the dialog between the protagonist Mackenzie Allen and the Holy Trinity, along with the denial of God’s wrath, and reasons why other movies and books change the words in the Bible.
This film represents our indigenous culture and regardless of what happens we can find good in a situation. Together the black and white community can come together and achieve more than they could ever do by themselves.
Bruce has a lot of fun with his new divine powers at first, but once his world starts to suffer from his selfish use of these powers havoc breaks out. After his girlfriend Grace leaves him, Bruce starts to see the pain he has done. He then prays to God, asking him to take his powers back and fix everything.
To conclude, I think this movie is a good example to show how a homeless person lived and how he survived his life from being a homeless. Throughout all his life he showed what can determination do even though there are obstacles in the way. Doing is best paid off his hardships. So from dreaming big, be determined on what you're trying to do, and be responsible on things will make you succeed in the future.
Not only does this movie deal with the issues of society, but it points to biblical scriptures that help lead us in the right direction. The biggest lesson that this film taught me was that if I put my complete faith in God, then no matter what happens, he will provide, watch over, and take care of me. I learned that expressing belief in God is not enough. I have to live everyday believing and trusting him and I have to show my trust and faith through my actions and my words.
As for the positive effects, I find it appropriate how the movie illustrates the struggles some people have to go through on a daily basis with the feelings, emotions, and their surroundings they endure. I mostly enjoy how they exhibit the recovery of it all. How even undergoing the hardest of struggles mentally, you can receive treatment for it, there are always people available, facilities willing to help that being as long as they are willing to try their very in return.
The movie is a very moving, sensitive and emotional story of redemption. The tale of how a young heartless thug can change into a softhearted guardian. This demonstrates that despite the poor living conditions, awful events and how heartless someone may seem. You can adapt to your surroundings and situations, you can also transform your life. Everyone has good in them you just choose whether to value it and utilize it or not appreciate it and discard it.
