Some of the philosophes thought that war was hateful and mocked the idea of military glory. Religious toleration and free speech an example of this would be Luther. This was shown when he translated the Bible into english for all people to understand so that they will not be manipulated and will be have their own opinion or view on the Bible’s messages. They were against tyranny and wanted laws so that all men will be treated before the law in comparison to the classes that were; royalty then upper class then lower class then peasants. Philosophers often spoke about things like religion, politics, and the inequality that occurred within their society. For the most part it was more than a conversation and more along the lines of an utopian wish. That would mean that it was something that they would like to happen yet they didn’t think it would happen or if it did occur it wouldn’t be within their lifetime. A comparison to their thoughts on their ideas being implemented in the real world would be when they want there to be world peace or for poverty to end; people seriously want these things, but in their head know the likeness of it happening. 3.) Does this seem “enlightened” or keeping with enlightenment ideals? Why is the use of language so important? Kant refers to women as “beautiful sex” which was very demeaning towards women since it referred to them as nothing more than a pretty object like a painting which is good to look at, but nothing more than that. This may be enlightened in his mind due to the fact that he may just be a sexist and believe that women are nothing more than something used for procreation and visual pleasure. This does not keep up with enlightened ideals since one of the enlightened ideals wanted equality for all people. The use of language was so important since it shows the contrast between the terms meaning and the way that it is being used. The term is supposing to mean “an excellence” which could be used in an form, yet in this context it is being used in a demeaning form, as though the women are only good for their
