The literary criticism I chose to read “Tom Sawyer's Games of Death”, by Harold Aspiz; the criticism is about The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, written by Mark Twain. There are many death games and resurrection games in the novel. One example would be when Tom is playing with a tick at school. His best friend, Joe Haper, tries to tell him what to do with it, and Tom gets frustrated with him. “He's my tick and I'll do what I blame please with him, or die” (Twain 82). He taunts his friend with the thought of thier own death. Another example of a death game would be when Tom's classmates hold mock “inquests on dead cats” (Twain 108). Finally, the largest death game Tom and his friends play, would be when they fake their deaths, and attend their own funeral. Tom and his friends travel across the river to Jackson's Island. They stay here for a few days, and later arrive during their own funeral service. In the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe, Uncle Tom, the main character, possesses a trait that sanctifies him from the rest of the characters. Uncle Tom's faith is his source of strength throughout the novel. This is portrayed socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Uncle Tom relies solely on his faith in God to assist him in all the trials, tribulations, and hardships that he endures. Tom never succumbs to the sin that those around him are so deeply engulfed. Tom's dedication to the Christian faith obviously sets him apart from the other characters in the story. However, without his unbinding belief in God, Uncle Tom would cease to be such a Christ-like figure.
In Uncle Tom's Cabin, Stowe is trying to show the people that a blending of Christian values and politics will help change and unite the nation. According to Professor Eric Sundquist, “the novel was revolutionary in demanding that the sacred and secular realms be united, that the role of God be reinserted into an American political system that paid lip service to Christian ideals and constantly invoked them in its discourse but failed to act upon them seriously.” Stowe believes that transformation could occur through the power of Christian love. It would not be enough to just change the laws for the people to change their views that have been instilled in them for generations. The people have to change their views to respect and love one another no matter their race or gender so we could come together to become better nation.
Mark Twain the author of "Adventure of Tom sawyer" was born in Missouri in 1835. He wrote about Tom Sawyer originally back in 1876, with the setting for the story, his home town of Hannibal Missouri, by the Mississippi River. Mark Twain reflection of women in society during his era can be conflicting at times. On thee one hand, He pictures some woman to be an "object" and also extremely dependent on men. Shown as weak, naïve, jealous, damsel in distress and can be seen as second class citizens at times. On the other hand, Mark Twain shows some women as 1st class citizens, an example of a model to society in manners, kindness, generosity and strong will.

Jim and Tom are peculiar characters because they have distinct ways of looking at things. In that Jim values family and friendship, Tom values following the rules, and Huck values the natural world.
Mood helps in creating an atmosphere in a literary work by means of setting, theme, diction and tone. Throughout the book To kill a mockingbird the author wanted the mood to be sorrowful or vexed or just fret about how the people are acting because seeing how things were being treated or how people acted would be enough to make you feel angry or sad or worried for the people who were in the book. You always wanted to know what was going to come next or how something would end. Vex was a very prominent mood in this story and is definitely the most relevant.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee seems like a complete replica of the lives of people living in a small Southern U.S. town. The themes expressed in this novel are as relevant today as when this novel was written, and also the most significant literary devices used by Lee. The novel brings forward many important themes, such as the importance of education, recognition of inner courage, and the misfortunes of prejudice. This novel was written in the 1930s. This was the period of the “Great Depression” when it was very common to see people without jobs, homes and food. In those days, the rivalry between the whites and the blacks deepened even more due to the competition for the few available jobs. A very famous court case at that time was the Scottsboro trials. These trials were based on the accusation against nine black men for raping two white women. These trials began on March 25, 1931. The Scottsboro trials were very similar to Tom Robinson’s trial. The similarities include the time factor and also the fact that in both cases, white women accused black men.

As she gets older, she learns mostly from her father Atticus how to interact with people. Scout learns to show dignity and respect to everyone, under any circumstances.

It talks about how Tom would do anything for the white man (Stowe, Uncle 1). The southerners did not give Harriet Beecher Stowe and credit for writing the book (Piacentino 1).
To say that Tom Sawyer was an average young boy growing up in Illinois would be an understatement. "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", written by Mark Twain is an absolutely enchanting book. Every episode is more exciting than the prior one, which is why this book receives five stars.
