The advantage of this renewable energy system is that it is potentially infinite i.e. is inexhaustible. However, the disadvantages include likelihood of being expensive to set up since it only functions in regions of volcanic activity, need for careful disposal of harmful elements found underground, and high costs of developing the technology. Together with wind energy resource, solar energy is regarded as suitable renewable energy resource since they are adequate to power the increasing energy needs of mankind (Budischak et. al., 2013, p.61). Solar energy is derived from the sun, which is regarded as the largest renewable energy resource. It is most readily available and inexpensive energy source since prehistoric times (Yadav & Bhagoria, 2013, p.71). Solar energy is generated through solar thermal or photovoltaic cells, which are solar cells that emerge from the absorption of sun’s radiation by silicon. The major advantages of solar energy include its ready availability, its inexpensive, it’s …show more content…
The process of harnessing this energy involves the use of a wind turbine that converts the motion or kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy, which is then utilized in electricity generation. This renewable energy resource is suitable in meeting global energy demands because it is associated with high reliability, less costs, and minimal to no environmental effects. The advantages of wind energy include the availability of large areas to harness it, no fuel costs, environmentally friendly, and energy efficiency. The disadvantages of wind energy include noise pollution, impact on wildlife during energy production process, and unreliability due to varying wind strength. The establishment of wind power technologies and applications has made it easy to harness wind energy and generate electricity to meet mankind’s increasing energy
Wind has been used for energy for thousands of years. Throughout time many historical applications have used the wind to generate a specific task. For example, sails of a ship use the wind to propel themselves across the ocean. Another example is windmills which have been used for grinding grain and pumping water. The earliest known applications of wind used as an energy source came from Persia around 900AD. There, the wind was used to drive early windmills. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, wind power was used by the Europeans as a significant source of energy for. As time passed, use of wind as energy lost favor because it was not always available when it was needed, and it was difficult to distribute. “The first wind turbines for electricity generation appeared in the late nineteenth century in the United States.” “Modern wind turbines are several hundred feet tall.” For example, “a wind turbine that generates 1.6 mega-walls of electrical power is approximately 113 meters tall from its base to the tip of the rotor blade.” Wind turbines must be pla...
Now-a-days the handling of “Electricity” has been increased rapidly. Due to this the “Fossil Fuels” are getting extinguished day-to-day. So we need to choose for an alternate source of energy that is Renewable Source. Among the Renewable Sources “Wind Energy” is one of them.
The need for alternative energy is a pressing issue for countries all over the world. One of the solutions this for problem is wind power, which has been in use for many thousands years. “About 5000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians used wind to sail ships on the Nile River. Later, people built windmill to grind wheat and other grains. American colonists used windmill to pump water, and cut wood at sawmill. In 1920s, they started to use it to generate electricity.” (Renewable energy trends, 2005).
One of the main types of renewable energy that we have used the most is the wind energy. Wind energy is the energy produced from the power of the wind. Throughout the 20th century, wind energy was used by sailboats as a fuel to move the boat in different directions. In the past, this was the most frequent way for shipment of goods. Sailboats were also used as a method of transportation. Also, wind energy is used to power wind turbines and convert the wind energy into electricity. Without the wind energy, the production of electricity and the shipment of goods would have been very difficult and perhaps life on earth might have perished. Thus, the efficient ways of using the renewable energy such as wind energy has played an enormous role to our existence and it has made engineers more successful at harnessing
The sun has been a major aspect of life since the beginning of time. People used many other forms of energy before electricity was discovered. There has been a debate over energy resources for years. Many people are worried about what current energy resources may be doing to the environment. Oil spills and nuclear power plant mishaps have only been a few accidents that have had a big impact on the environment and the people who inhabit it. There are plenty of energy sources that do not harm the environment and are still able to get the job done. Solar energy is one energy alternative that will insure the betterment of the country and, at the same time, protect the natural environment.
From the early times of human beings, trying to find ways to harness the suns energy for their daily lives , we have come long ways since the first solar panels now we have other ways to create energy but those aren’t safe they’re dangerous and hazardous to the environment. The future begins with change and we can’t do that if we’re still doing the same things to, burning fossil fuels and power plants are the main sources of today’s pollution. Solar panels are a great thing for this time in age, harnessing the sun’s rays for energy pollutant free air.

India is blessed with ample solar energy available which in turn can produce 5000 trillion KWS power by having average 300 sunny days per year and solar insolation of 4-7 kWh per Sq. m per day. Thus efficient trapping of solar energy could provide an alternative to fossil fuel dependent energy production. With increase in demand for power, now private sector has also started to invest in solar power due to better technological maturity and cost competitiveness. Technology for transforming solar radiation energy into both heat and electricity can harness solar energy effectively and have huge potential in scaling up power production. As there is positive correlation between energy requirement and GDP of the country, solar energy can address energy deficit in demand by both Off-Grid power supply ...
Solar Energy is an alternative electrical energy source. Its a renewable source, because of its abundant supply and limited environmental impact. Solar energy has the ability to power buildings, electronic devices, and spacecrafts through a specific process. The energy is harvested from the sun to made usable, thus it is a renewable form of energy. Solar energy is created by the use of solar panels, a collection of photovoltaic cells (solar cells, that mean light and electricity). The solar panels have a system in which, it collects the sun’s rays and converts it into energy (similar to the organic process of photosynthesis in plants), and sto...
Renewable energy is a type of energy source that does not have an ending to it from its consistent replenishing. Differential to fossil fuels that cause harm to the Earth, renewable energy is made from natural sources that don’t cause any harm with carbon dioxide or pollutants. There are four different types of alternative energy: nuclear, solar, wind, hydroelectric. The purpose of this paper is for the reader to better understand the use of alternative energy along with the positive and negative impacts it has on the world.
Solar energy is one of the renewable energy sources that are highly sought after because of its applications and also as of the cleanest forms of energy. Solar energy applications are constantly increasing in the last few years, and they are considered perhaps the most promising that can significantly contribute to the total electricity generation. Solar Photovoltaic cells (PV) and the concentrated solar power (CSP) technology are the two main technologies out there when it comes to solar energy applications. These two are discussed below.
The first widely used renewable source of energy is wind power. This energy source is created by wind turbines that convert the speed of the wind into electricity and mechanical energy. The speed of the turbine affects the amount of energy that is produced. As the turbine moves faster, more energy is produced. About 1.5% of the world’s energy is derived from wind power, but that number is expected to increase in the future (Frater, “Top 10 Renewable Energy Sources”). Wind power turbines that are placed in large open areas have the least environmental impact. An example of a wind power farm would be the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm in Riverside County, California.
Wind is a form of solar energy. The term wind energy describes the process by which the wind is used to generate electricity or mechanical power. Wind turbines convert mechanical energy from the wind into electrical power. Wind turbines usually have three main parts. There are blades that connect to a central hub, a box behind the blades that contains the generator, and a long stem that connects to the ground. The way how it works is that the wind turns the blades, which spins a shaft that connects to a generator making electricity. After the electricity is produced it is sent through transmission lines to a substation that is sent to business and homes. For the sake of our planet, we must promote a renewable energy economy. Wind power can be a foundation of that sustainable energy future because it provides jobs in states that are building wind turbines, is a renewable energy source, and does not damage our environment. The environment will not be damaged by the pollution, the natural resources will not be used up, and there won’t be generating of hazardous wastes. Welcoming wind energy today will lay the foundation for a healthy tomorrow that will affect everyone in the United States. There are obstacles and challenges that will make it more difficult, but the environmental impact is well worth it to invest more money into wind energy.
Wind power is one of the most sustainable ways of generating electricity as no toxic emissions are produced; it does not add to global warming and is one of the most available sources of renewable energy and theoretically it is an infinite source of energy. On sufficiently windy areas, wind turbines are one of the most economical methods of generating electricity, which makes it appealing to many individuals, governments and organizations. Due to this it is the fastest growing source of electricity in the world (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2014) with a 10% increase in yearly additions installed in 2012 compared with 2011 (Global Wind Energy Council, 2012). However the proportion of energy that can be harnessed through wind power is restricted by the cost of the infrastructure needed, construction, the amount of wind that occurs and that there are only a narrow number of sites within the UK that are windy enough for the wind turbines to be worth installing.
I am certain that all have heard of the terms green house gases, fossil fuels, and global warming. Have you ever questioned what will happen if nothing is done about the environmental problems facing the world today? What if I answer you that, we can merely use the power from the sun to power up our entire planet without the use of harmful energy sources, which affect our atmosphere? The power from the sun is what we call solar power. Solar power is the energy that comes from the sun as light and heat energy, and then it is later converted into electrical energy through solar panels (Nelson, 2008). This kind of power is completely free, right? Why should we put a lot of expense on other sources of energy, when there is a complete free and healthy power? It is evident that solar energy is a healthy source of energy, which will help stop global warming all together, but it is economically efficient to switch everything to solar energy. Solar energy is capable of becoming the world's future power supply because, it is renewable, eco-friendly, and extremely efficient when strategically placed.
