How the 1980 miracle team was significant. Due to rules in the Olympics, NHL players have to change how they play and how 135 NHL players are going to have to change their style of play. The Russians are predicted to win because of home field advantage in 2014.
According to Lyle Richardson, a columnist for the bleacher report, the rosters for the 12 teams have been announced and a considerable number of NHL players made the cut. Indeed, some of these teams are entirely made up of NHL stars. Every NHL team has players headed to Sochi, with some teams seeing a significant number of stars competing in the tournament. Russia has predicted to beat Sweden for the gold in the championship game but the Sweden’s are not going away easily. Every Olympic roster for men’s hockey has at least one NHL player on its team with the team USA having twenty-five and Canada having twenty-five. (Richardson)
NHL Hockey and Olympic hockey are very different due to each league having their own style of play. In Olympic hockey Fighting is frowned upon, those who fight receive a penalty match, and will be ejected from the game. In the NHL fighting, is what most fans come to watch fighting allowed and after the fight is over all players involved in the scuffle will be penalized and put into the penalty box? The penalty box is where players have to sit after a fight and other behavior infractions for a certain amount of time.
NHL players were not allowed to play in the Olympics until 1998, the Olympics games were meant for amateur athletes. In 2002, Team USA made it to the championship game and lost 5-2 to Canada, Herb Brooks was still the head coach for team USA at the time this loss ended his run for two gold medals, twenty-two years after his miracle ...
