Thanksgiving: A Short Story

In 2015 my family had a sad thanksgiving. What happened? My dad got sick and was lifeflighted to the Utah University. In order to understand the story let me tell you it from the very beginning. The week before Thanksgiving my dad, Tim, had gotten sick as the days went on. He didn’t get any better. In fact, his condition got worse he started to forget things. Once in the middle of dinner prayer he completely forgot what he was doing. He also seemed like he was constantly on another planet and it was hard for my family and I to get his attention and when we did, he was still confused as to what was going on. In Salt Lake City, we walked around Temple Square and went to the palace like mall, the City Creek Mall, of course I had been there before, but the size never ceased to amaze me with stores crammed into every possible location, the people bustling to get to shop at the next store with the fish swimming throughout the main floor in their own personal creek, and the walkways connecting the puzzle pieces called buildings with their glass ceilings that could open if the weather allowed. We wandered around the mall for an hour or two then went to a two story grocery stores to get a few things and went to her parents house in Bountiful, which was set on a hill as most houses were. However, the visit was slightly awkward since we didn’t know her family and she was talking to them while my sisters, my brother, and I stood there awkwardly in the middle of a dance floor at a party, not knowing the dance. That evening, we switched houses, again this time to a little three story house with a bad layout in Brigham City, Utah. My Aunt Erin and Uncle Will were staying here until they found a home to buy. My family stayed in the tiny house with my cousins until Thanksgiving. My dad was diagnosed with a strand of hand, foot, mouth disease but the hospital still in a coma. My spirits were lifted to the moon but soon dropped. I should be thrilled, I should of been even more so, but I realized I was scared. I realized I didn’t want to see a real life superhero in a hospital gown completely miserable looking. The next day, we did get to see him. He was in a fairly large room in a gown and IV hooked up to his arm. He looked more tired than I had ever seen him in my life. I was shocked that I did not cry at the sight however, I can’t recall looking him straight in the eye. We met my Aunt Kay for lunch and revisited him again after. This time, it was more bearable since he was in a more average looking hospital room. I didn't see him again until he got was released that Sunday. On Sunday my mom took my siblings and I to another aunt while she went to pick up the old man and. Then, finally went home as a whole
