Texas Farm Bureau Federation
The Texas Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest organization, and it focuses on the wellness and improvement on the field of agriculture in the state of Texas. Farmers as well as other community members, have created this union with the main purpose of recognizing the type of labor that impacts the most the state of Texas. This interest group was founded in1933, starting as a tiny and almost insignificant organization, according to its main web site. Yet, it expanded and got stronger during the beginning of the Great Depression, and since then it has remained successful and in operation.

Some of these focus on increasing rural teens and educating the rest of the community about agriculture and its importance to the state. Programs like Agriculture in the Classroom, the Planet Agriculture exhibition and other trainings that deeply inform about the status of agriculture. They even have a program for young adults to encourage them to follow a path on the agricultural world. This organization gives away a large amount of funds that are dedicated to programs and scholarships for future college students. “Annually we award over $200,000 in scholarships in a variety of packages designed to meet different student needs,” mentioned the main treasurer of the union. And stated that this services include several youth leadership organizations where students can participate such as their Free Enterprise Speech Contest.
Issues that have been misunderstood or even ignored by the government of the state, are brought and fought back by the Texas Farm Bureau board. The president and director of this union creates every year a list leaders and staff to follow and mark as their priority. Each year our Legislature introduces new farm bills requiring additional need for in-depth studies and introduction to the ever changing farming system. The ranch manager becomes the caretaker of crops, livestock and other animals. A lot of their time is spent outdoors and in meetings with farmers and government agencies. In recent history, farming in America has changed dramatically, and Naylor’s farm is representative of many in the American Corn Belt. Though it began growing a variety of crops and keeping livestock too, Naylor now only plants corn and soybeans. In Naylor’s grandfather’s days, the farm fed the whole family with just enough left over for twelve others. Now, Naylor indirectly feeds an estimated 129 people, but this does not mean his farm is any more successful. In fact, Naylor’s farm cannot financially support his family.
Agricultural subsidies is a very complex and controversial economic topic today. It will continue to be a hot topic as government continues it. It is largely debated in the United States as well as in other countries. The reason it is so largely debated is because it literally have an effect on the entire world market. Not to mention that the farm has been booming the last 5 to 10 years. This topic also tends to draw strong opinions in our area in particular due to the large agricultural community in our region. However, even within different states there are many supporters as well as opponents to these government subsidies.

Agriculture is not all work and no play. Many advances can be made in the understanding of agriculture by making available a variety of methods to provide children with a hands-on experience and also educating all individuals about the importance of the practice. The ignorance of urban communities can be overcome with the help of organizations and people within the community. School visits, hands-on experiences, volunteers and organizations are just a few examples of the steps that can be taken to educate Americans about agriculture and close the gap between rural and urban populations.
Agriculture has always been one of the pillars that our nation’s economy depends upon. As this industry grows and expands agriculture is not just farming. There’s so many different occupations that are involved with the industry that aren’t out in the fields produces food and fiber. With such an evolving industry, education is key to make sure everyone is up to speed with the newest knowledge and technology. Agricultural education, plays a huge role in educating the people within the industry along with people that benefit from it.
Due to rural-urban migration, there has been increasing levels of poverty and depopulation in rural areas. This is one of the reasons why the government has seen it as necessary and made it a priority to improve the lives of the people who live in rural areas. Rural development is about enabling people in the rural areas take charge of their destiny. This is through the use and management of the natural resources they are exposed to. This is a process through which people learn over time and they use this knowledge to adapt to the changing world.
